    64 Barracuda pace car?

Grand National ended in 1973 after which it was called Winston Cup. After several iterations we just call it Cup now. and it is the highest version of NASCAR. I think your further post refers to Baby Grands. Compact American cars.

Another overheating situation 63 Slant six

When I bought my fairly well maintained 64 slant I went for my first drive, went less than a mile and the Temp gauge was pegged. Nursed it home and took out thermostat and did a drainage test on rad which seemed unplugged. Still overheated right away. Took the water pump off and found that the...

    Master cylinder rebuild

A font of knowledge this site is! I will probably go ahead with the dual MC as recommended by slantsixdan. I'll get a friend who has an Amazon account to purchase it for me, I'm a bit of a Luddite as far as online purchases go. The specs say it is Made in China, Mr. SSD, I wasn't expecting an...

    Master cylinder rebuild

My 1964 Valiant needs a master cylinder rebuild. When I took it out for the summer and checked all levels, I noticed my reservoir was basically empty. Hadn't touched the pedal so refilled. No leakage evidenced at the four corners. The firewall paint has been compromised, though no fluid...

    Alternator Amp Size?

Ir's been a while since I did my alternator, But I seem to remember from probably here that my 64 slant originally had a less than 30A output. I bought an alternator that tested at I think 90A, it came from a van with a wheelchair "elevator". So big output. I wired it directly to the battery...

HEI Upgrade but No Spark (kinda)

When I got my electronic distributor I also got all the wiring and control box. I wonder if you did, with factory distributor to box fittings. Makes life easier. I could help with distributor install and have a spare factory box, but factory connectors may be required. I'm inner city NW.

HEI Upgrade but No Spark (kinda)

I wonder if it ever ran after the engine change. Probably a small problem, perhaps exacerbated by your well intentioned changes. Possibly a ballast resistor wiring or failure based on switch response of timing light. I'm in Calgary, and have a points distributor to achieve running status, but...

    radiator interchangeability

Hey all: I know this maybe belongs under the rad section, but feel more people will see it here. Any one know what rads will fit, i.e. what years , in my '64 Valiant w/ slant six, auto? TIA Dan

    Too lean?

Thanks for replies. I reset the timing from where it had been, advanced it about 8deg from where it was, no pinging or anything, it seemed to help a bit but still runs hot on highway. I should use the methods of finding TDC using a straw or whatever to ensure that the harmonic balancer hasn't...

    Too lean?

Hi, let's see if I can include everything pertinent. '64 Valiant, 225, 1bbl Carter I'm quite sure, but not near car now. The car will slowly start to overheat on longer (+10 miles) drives. People talk about setting the mixture, and that overheating can be caused by too lean a mixture. How is...

    New tires

So here are follow-up pics of my old gal's new boots. She seems to like them! Dan

    tire choice for 64 Valiant.

After further research, and seeing that the 205 needed a 5-7" wheel, with 6' maybe optimal, I went with 195/70/14 tires. They seem to have the period look, and I hope they work out. BFG Advantage TAs, I think we pay quite a bit more up here in the north, but the old girl needed new boots, and...

    tire choice for 64 Valiant.

So I finally got some 14" SBP steelies for my '64 Valiant 'vert. They are 4.5" wide. After reading most everything on FABO, I've decided to get 205/70/14 tires. The chart at the tire shop says 5" width wheels are needed for the 205s, I'm thinking that, based on other FABO members, it shouldn't...
