How long have you owned your car?

Bought my Dart in Sept '94. I was a Senior in high school and had one of the only non-VW's.

    Which Flowmaster

I've had the same set of Super Turbos for several years behind a set of Hooker Super Comps. I had tail pipes out the back, and then turndowns in front of the rear end. In either configuration they have a nice mellow tone but still a good sound under hard acceleration. There was even a period...

    340 Value

I have a '70 340 block, crank, and bare set of 915 heads that I have been sitting on for several years, but haven't ever come up with the cash to do anything with it. Now the track manager a my local drag strip is looking for a 340 and I am considering selling him mine. What I don't know is what...

    Drag track combined with speedway

My home track, Oxford Dragway in Oxford, ME, is directly behind Oxford Plains Speedway. The drag strip is 1/8 mile and the speedway is 3/8 mile paved oval. I live only a mile and a half from them:mrgreen:

    4.7 H.o.

Yeah, this is pretty much the reasoning I came up with. It does make more sense to go with the Hemi if the cost is only a bit more and the parts are readily available. It just seemed this would be a nice motor for a driver/cruiser, especially in an A-body, with maybe a keisler 5 speed behind it...

    4.7 H.o.

My boss has a Jeep Grand Cherokee (probably a mid 2000's?) with a 4.7 H.O. This thing seems to have some decent power and I got to wondering why I haven't seen very many of these swapped into older vehicles. Now obviously the Magnum engines virtually dropped in place of the LA engines, save for...

    NHL playoff!!

I'm starting to get irritated watching the Bruins try to cruise their way through. Where is the intensity that got them there? Aaaarrrrgh, the life of a Boston sports fan!

    Excessive Crank End Play

Well, I pulled the pan this weekend and sure enough, the rear side of the thrust bearing and the thrust surface on the crank are wiped.:vom: Now to figure out why. The only thing I can guess at this point is maybe the converter was not fully engaged to the pump on the tranny. Any other ideas...

    Excessive Crank End Play

I have a 318 in my '74 Dart that was freshened in spring '07 with new bearings, rings, cam and lifters, valve springs, and so on. I only ran the car a couple of times that year and not at all last year, so it might have about 100 miles on it. Early last week, I got it running again and noticed...

    Is this common?

OK, I won't worry too much about it. It's apparent that these heads have been on a running engine since the passages were filled and the material has held up. I just hadn't seen anything like it before. Thanks for all the responses:thumbrig:

    Is this common?

Yeah, I can see where that opening might create some turbulence, but now that I look, most heads seem to have it and be just fine. The only uncertainty I have now is if I should just leave it, try to somehow make it a bit smoother, or try to remove it altogether. As far as removing it, I'm not...

    Is this common?

No, you're seeing it right. The filler actually begins in the exhaust port and runs part way into the heat passage, like it was packed in from inside the port. The intake manifold side is still open a little more than half way in.

    Is this common?

OK, so since I made my original post, I did some investigating on other sets of heads I have kicking around. I guess I had never noticed that the exhaust port in question actually opened to the heat crossover. My bad. I suppose I've never had something to draw my attention to it either. As far...
