1970 Super Stock or Pro Stock Darts

None of the LO or BO cars were body-in-white. They were finished off at the Hurst factory. As others have mentioned some racers re-did their '68 cars so they could compete a bit longer in P/S. Oddly AMC tried that with their S/S AMX cars for S/S but NHRA refused them. Mopar seemed to get away...

1970 Super Stock or Pro Stock Darts

That's a lot of nice work for a reproduction. May I suggest you get a copy of the Sox& Martin book from Autotechbooks. While they didn't run a Dart in their stable they did runa Duster (a-body) and their '68 'Cuda was one of the factory cars. I've built 3 Hemi Darts to date and my current...

1970 Super Stock or Pro Stock Darts

Theis thread got resurrected at a good time. WHile not a Dart, I'm doing a Duster P/S clone/tribute car ( Bobby Yowell's) using a Chris Alston Chassis. Looking over these old pics I figured an Alston chassis was about as close to an old P/S chassis. So far it's in in the chassis shop with its...

Best torsion bar for a Hemi

I use a small-block T-bar(s) on my Hemi Dart. It's a bit jarring but bearable.

    1974 Dodge Colt????

The "Dodge Colt" was made by Misubishi for Mopar as an answer to the Vega & Pinto. From a drag racing POV, they were frequently used in P/S and/or the Altered classes with a de-stroked (396 or 366) Hemi. IIRC Mopar built 8 "team cars" built by, I think, Don Hardy Race cars in Texas that went...

What PARTS did Hurst and Chrysler put in the Super Stock Barracuda & Dart not in other factory cars

There's the difference! IIRC most cars had a negative offset and were 14".

What PARTS did Hurst and Chrysler put in the Super Stock Barracuda & Dart not in other factory cars

Weren't the wheels on the Darts, as shipped, have some sort of weird offset/part number? I vaguely recall something about early Dakota wheels being the same or similar.

    Correct Super Stock Seats?

Going back a few posts, IMO the WW trimimng on the "mule car" or any other S/S car is kind of meaningless. Why? Because per a former Hurst worker there was no real patternin the WW trimming. Oh, they had a template to follow but with one guy on either side of the car as they went down the line...

Original Super Stock HEMI Barracuda BO29

I don't get the difference between "components" and "parts"........but whatever. Many of the parts are still available and those that aren't can be made...i.e. seat brackets, delete plates, battery tray, etc. And I think most guys nowadays want to build a clone of some type as the originals are...

Question about the large hood scoop on the SS cars

You're right. My guess is in '68 the engineers were simply trying to cram as much air in as possible. Also, IIRC, there was a height limit on scoops in the S/S class so that played into it too. I've seen a "lip" added to these scoops right in-line with the opening attached to the hood to "push"...

Question about the large hood scoop on the SS cars

Chrysler did a lot of testing on the "mule car" Barracuda during development. When it was in private hands I had a chance to see some pics of it being developed & they tried IIRC, about 3 or 4 different designs. I love the scoop. But to be fair, it was later found out a "boundary layer" an inch...

Original Super Stock HEMI Barracuda BO29

There's nothing mystical about building a Hemi A-body. Actually in some ways it's easier than doing a 440 A-body. Keep in mind these cars were minimal in equipment & the parts were from other, less expensive vehicles and what wasn't were simple fabricated pieces. Example: the de-clutching fan...

Original Super Stock HEMI Dart LO23

IIRC, the majority were automatics. I spoke to a guy years ago that bought one new with a 4spd & he converted his too. I'd love a 4-spd, but then again & enjoyed my C/G, 4-spd Pinto--lots of power, not much wheelbase!

Weight comparison between a Hemi Dart and a Hemi Barracuda.

Thanks for the info! My best guess my car is a "svelte" 3300lbs since I kept it all steel, minimal interior & caged.
