Impossible.... or so I thought. I changed the carb and the problem was still there! With the first carb (Holley hp 850), I leaned out all 4 corners until it would barely run, but it didn’t help. So I switched carbs and the same problem was there. But... I never took the time to really lean...

I am first going to check voltage at idle. If normal, then I will try again to see if backfire is confined to only one side or if it is both sides. I don’t want to exaggerate, but I have had the plugs in and out roughly 240,000 times in the last 8 months. They are a little dark, but not oily. No...

“We’re real dudes, not 80’s metrosexuals” Too funny man! Anyways, carb is Edelbrock 800 thunder AVS. It had a holley 850 hp on it that I switched out in my troubleshooting. But that did not fix the problem. I think carb is unlikely to be the cause.

I will try to upload some pics. They won’t be useful for troubleshooting but may be fun to check out.

I apologize that my posts have been brief and infrequent over the last several days. I have been working way too much but hope to make...

Part number is not 685. No digital display on box. Looks like an MSD box. I don’t think it’s a pig rich at idle. I have turned the idle screws so lean that it will barely run yet the problem persists. I have switched carburetors and the same problem persists. I initially thought maybe it was a...

That’s a really good thought, but my understanding is that with an iron block and aluminum heads, valve lash will open up slightly as the engine warms up. If I’ve got this confused, please correct me.
