8.75 Sure Grip spider gears break

Thanks for the tips. I also believe that they break due to shock load when cornering over the curbs. Luckily I have now he whole winter to find a solution... :) Some video can be found for instance here:

8.75 Sure Grip spider gears break

I do double de-clutch always when shifting down, but I seems that driving over the kerbs is pretty hard for the diff. I've always had a clutch type diff in my race cars, with good results. Except with this one... Probably I'll try Truerack next if I can't find better gears for the Sure Grip...

8.75 Sure Grip spider gears break

While racing my vintage road racer Dart last weekend I broke the spider gears of the Sure Grip clutch type diff carrier again. This is already second unit within one year that breaks the similar way. The rear end is 8.75, and the ratios that I've had are 3.91 and 3.55. Car has a 273 engine and...

    Vintage road racer Dart '66

So, my racing season of this year is over now. No DNFs in any race. The end result was not too bad, as I won the Finnish championship in my class of Competition Touring cars of 1966-1971, over 1600cc. Some video from the last race at: https://youtu.be/2WhV4BIi6qo 273 and Kelsey...

It's no bad at all when rememebering that all suspension mounting points are as standard, and there are only sway bars added, both front and rear. T-bars are of 1.12" dia and there are adjustable Koni shocks. It's still a bit too understeering in slow corners, but a bit more caster will...

    Vintage road racer Dart '66

Last weekend at the Gellerasen circuit in Sweden. Some more stiffening to the suspension is still needed, but otherwise the car is handling pretty well.

I had my first race of the season last weekend, and the car felt pretty good. During the winter it got completely new engine, rear sway bar and some weight reduction. There were two races during the weekend, and I was 2nd and 1st in my class. Next race event will be in Sweden after 2 weeks.

    273, the good points

I'm not sure about the Barracuda, but for the Dart the 8.75 rear end was FIA homologated only for 1966. At the same time there came 10.5" clutch and 15 x 7" wheels. Actually my own Dart is originally a 1965 GT that I converted to 1966 specs to get these goodies.

    273, the good points

Hi, As Dave noted, I run a Dart '66 in the FIA historic races in Finland and Sweden. I got the car first time to the races last summer, and now the further development is going on. I destroyed 2 engines last summer due to oiling issues, so I built some experience on it :) My cars runs in...

Actually, I blew the bottom end of my race engine one week before this event due to oil starvation. That was because I used the original small sump with just some baffles added. So, I had just a couple days to make a new bottom end to it, and that was literally put together from the old parts...

Some photos of my Dart in its first race event last weekend. The suspension was still too soft, but generally it wasn't too bad. Engine failure in the 2nd race though...

    Forged pistons for 273?

Hello, I need a set of forged pistons for my vintage road racer Dart. It runs in Europe, and has FIA papaerwork, so 273 is the only allowed engine option. I just blew an engine that had Egge pistons (not beacause of the pistons though...), and now I'm making a new one. Does anyone know if...
