Advice on no start. What I have done.

I've never done dwell, but have an old Sears meter still in box from a garage sale. So, I'll learn how. Does the car need to be running for that?

Will a starter alone move an automatic?

LOL at some of the responses. The more you know, as they used to say on TV. Neutral safety switch isn't working.

Advice on no start. What I have done.

I cleaned the negative battery ground and checked both cables continuity. I'll need to start looking at other grounds. Any specific ones to check? I did pull the distributor. It's currently out. I replaced the parts one by one, but I have been learning as I go, so I haven't done it the most...

Will a starter alone move an automatic?

I know you can move a manual vehicle a short distnace under starter power alone. Can the same be done with a push button slant 6? if I put it in drive or reverse and crank, it cranks, but no movement occurs.

Advice on no start. What I have done.

1962 Lancer, Slant 6. Was running. Parked two months, no start. - Replaced: ballast resistor, coil, cap, rotor, and condenser (able to do that with the distributor on car), and plugs. Current situation: Checking coil wire output shows a thin white spark what will jump 1/2 inch. Spark out of...

Oil capacity/dipstick discrepancy between two 1962s.

Let's say I added a quart or so, brought it up to the safe range of a 5 qt vehicle. If it actually ended up really being a quart over is that enough overfill to have an issue? Are there slant 6's with a 3.7 qt capacity?

Oil capacity/dipstick discrepancy between two 1962s.

The dipsticks also look different at the top end. The sedan one has three bends, whereas the wagon one has one. If I insert the sedan dipstick into the wagon, it shows the oil a bit below the add line.

Oil capacity/dipstick discrepancy between two 1962s.

Sure. The first photo shows the two dipsticks. The longer one is the one in the wagon. Second photo shows the oil pan on the wagon, the drain bolt is in the middle. The second photo shows the sedan. Drain bolt off to passenger side. Photos aren't ideal as both cars are currently on the ground.

Oil capacity/dipstick discrepancy between two 1962s.

How can I tell which motor it is specifically and where would I look that up?

Oil capacity/dipstick discrepancy between two 1962s.

Hi everyone, I have a 62 Lancer sedan and a 62 Lancer wagon. The oil change on the sedan was about 5 quarts. I just went to do my first oil change on the wagon and 3.7 quarts (oil + wix filter change) shows full. I pulled the dipstick from the sedan, and the two dipsticks are different. The...

Oil choice for 1962 Lancer? What do you use in your Slant Six?

I appreciate all the responses. Thank you. It's always interesting to read enthusiast car opinions, be it on a specialty forum like this, or a more general BobIsTheOilGuy thread. Thanks for the linked posts SlantSixDan, makes for a good, in depth evaluation. HalfaFish, thanks, I'll check the...

Oil choice for 1962 Lancer? What do you use in your Slant Six?

Hello everyone. I recently picked up a 1962 Lancer (unsure of whether it's a 170 or 225, although it probably doesn't matter for this question). Miles and maintenance history on the motor are unknown. Does seem to run decently. What's a good oil weight? And, do you personally use an oil higher...

    Towing a manual A100 with a dolly?

So with a manual there is no splash lubrication or anything required from a spinning input shaft?

    Towing a manual A100 with a dolly?

I may need to tow a 1969 A100 about 200 miles. It's a manual (3 on tree), slant 6. I am assuming that I will need to disconnect the drive shaft. Is that accurate? Will the transmission burn up if this isn't done? One disconnected is there any trick to make it secure enough to not hit the...

    Advice on compression numbers.

Thanks for these responses. I've taken note of the suggestions. Expectations for the van are hopefully that it can run reasonably well and be capable of some half day road trips without major engine work needed soon. Obviously I understand anything can happen in mechanical systems, particularly...
