    Finally found a properly garbage (read: cheap) 4-speed A-body project.

    Behold! A not-great 1974 Scamp. $1300. Pretty basic, three on the tree and 225 slant. Only options on the fender tag were the "big" slant six and the pinstripe. Came with an OD833 in the trunk, which should pair decently with this Ranger 8.8 I got for $250. No limited slip but 3.73 gearing...

    The problem was actually the motor. After half an hour of searching for shorts in the wiring, I beat the crap out of the motor with a screwdriver and that got it working properly.

    Do the axle tubes on the 8.8 just unscrew from the housing? And do they have any large nuts/bolts on those explorer rear ends, or is it all sub-1" metric and standard stuff? I'll probably head out to my local Pick n' Pull as there's about 25 explorers there with the 8.8.

    I'm going to start rebuilding the 225 slant 6 in my 1975 Duster in a week or so, and wanted to know which two-barrel carb would be best. Tried looking on Summit Racing but all it's coming up with is remanufactured UREMCO crap. Needs to have electric (automatic, whatever) choke.
