    alum edelbrock heads

So with a non radical cam you can just bolt rhe heads and stock rockers on and measure for pushrods with an adjustable measuring pushrod. Use the manufacturers specs for preload, bolt it all up carefully and you'll be good to go. I also ran ootb eddy heads for over seven years before I got...

Won't he need to order pushrods?

    Cast v Forged Crank

My eagle cast 4" lasted seven years of harsh beatings before this happened. I rebuilt with a scat cast and once I balanced it and got the journals ground and polished for oil clearance I had forged $$ in it. Next time will be all forged!

    Double rocker oiling- a problem?

I run PRW stainless bushed/roller tip rockers. They have passages that go thru from the pushrod cups. I already made several sacrifices to the gods of max HP in the name of endurance and 'streetability'- what can a little extra windage hurt as long as the bearings are fed. I'm still curious...

    Double rocker oiling- a problem?

So I have an LA block, Edelbrock LA heads, Howards edm AMC style lifters, and hollow ball-ball pushrods with a solid flat tappet (.018 lash). I'm running a HV pump but I wonder if the edm oiling plus the pushrod oiling (how does lash affect that?) plus the LA style oiling will cause any...

    Edelbrock heads - acceptable tolerances

I ran a set ootb for a bunch of years on a mild street 408. Got around 1hp/CID- dynoed at 350/400 at the wheels. I never did hook it up good at the track without breaking parts (4spd) but it was MPH'ing around 108-110. For what it was- a clean upgrade to tired iron heads- I was happy. I just...

    ATI damper

Alright at least if anybody searches for this here's the deal- The ATI super damper needs a 1/2" shorter crank pulley to line up. The ATI sticks out 1/2" farther. The hub took some pounding with a plastic deadblow hammer to get on far enough but once I got enough threads started on the crank...

    ATI damper

I finally stepped up to a nice damper. I have my motor assembled to the point where I'm ready to loosely install the timing cover and drive the damper hub on to center the front seal before torquing the cover down. I only have calipers, no nice inside mics to measure the hub and crank size to...

Intake manifold Not seating properly (?)

I always use black hi-temp on the front and back rails. The last two intakes I pulled I used the engine lift and a carb plate to get the intakes un-stuck. That silicone sticks so well it seemed close to lifting the tires off the ground before I started in with a razor blade! I'm scared of prying...

Yet another comparison (air-gap carb spacers)

It's just a mr gasket or whatever from the little hot rod section at pep boys. You know the display with the chrome dice valve caps and starter blankets. I took the 4 hole and cut open the back two holes into one hole. It comes with the open and 4 hole- the plastic insert is slightly tapered to...

Yet another comparison (air-gap carb spacers)

Guess what kind I liked on my airgap? My 408 with xe275hl would hit real hard at 2200 and was rough below that (stick car). The three hole spacer was the best of both worlds drivability wise. Plus it makes a funny face!

    408 LA main bearing clearances

I dropped the crank block and bearings off at the machine shop today to be measured. Once I find out the actual #s I can decide if I want/need an align hone, -.001 bearings, crank polished, or some combination of the above depending on which part or parts are causing the tightness.

    408 LA main bearing clearances

Ryan at Shady Dell is porting my heads and sold me the scat crank and rods, and balanced them. He measured and ordered me proper rod bearings. Its up to me to check main journals and thrust. Of course I'll double check rod clearance and side play when I put it together but so far I only measured...

    408 LA main bearing clearances

Howdy Im trying to set my oil clearance on the mains. I have a scat cast crank and a set of standard bearings. I am using plastigage and I checked all the bearings three times to torque and got the same result: 0.0009 or 0.00085 every time. Needs more clearance! I think I could run x...

    small block strokers

Its not all about final gear ratio- I have 4.10s but they're hooked up to an iron 833 OD- I cruise the highway 70mph around 2000rpm. Third gear 1:1 redlines at 140mph so it's a good passing gear ;) I still wind up 2nd like a crazy person every chance I get- why not! I didn't build the car to...
