I have a '68 Barracuda and the fuel tank is full of rust. Is there anything I should know before buying a new one? Do most people replace the sending unit at the same time? Are there good types and not so good types? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!
Eric

I got everything I needed for my 68 cuda at http://vansauto.com/.

Good prices and fast shipping, got here in 4 days...

If your fuel tank is trashed, most likely so is your sending unit. So get a new one...What engine do you currently have in the car? Are you planning on any upgrades, if so and you don't already have them, a 3/8 sending unit and fuel line is a good upgrade...

This pretty much confirms what I thought. I see a fuel tank kit at Dante's that includes everything (even the 3/8ths sending unit - it's a 360cid car now). Looks like it may be the way to go. I don't really understand the big price swings in fuel tanks though. I see from $140 to $300.

Thanks for the help!

I got mine at Van's. He did tell me it was a "foreign" tank. BUT for $140.00, I had to get it. I have it installed now, and well... It seems to hold fuel. :) I'm not sure what more you'd want it to do?

I also got the 3/8" sending unit, that was $49.00 at Van's as well (good price), and Stainless Steel 3/8" lines for $100.00 at Finelines.

I did my research, and as far as I found that's the best deal you going to find right there. Even on E-bay you can't get it any cheaper... MAYBE slightly??
At least with Van's and Finelines its something you can trust, with fast shipping and good prices. :)

I replaced the tank, sender, lines and got a strap and clip kit too. Mine was rusty all the way through. I went with 3/8 " just in case might want to put a bigger motor in sometime and need more fuel. LOL I bought from Dantes. toolman http://www.dantesparts.com/fueltanks.html

i also need a new fuel tank and most likely everything else as mine is completely rusted out. i saw $175 at dantes. does anybody know if that includes the sending unit as well?

No, that does not include the sending unit...

$175 definitley doesn't include the sending unit. Dante's has a pretty complete "kit" (http://www.dantesparts.com/fuelkits.html) for $400. I ordered mine yesterday. I might have been able to save a few bucks hunting for each part individually, but this seemd like a fair price and saves me the hassle. The gentleman I spoke with was very nice and helpful.
