How often does someone ask you to sell your car to them?

-
Never has happen to me ....... but I do know a guy who popped off a really high price on his car at the nationals ( the car was not for sale ) and the other guy whipped out the cash. Car was sold......... so if you you do throw out a price, make sure its one you can live with, cause ya just never know!!

All the time!!! Man up is what I say, if you ask the question "is your car for sale" make sure you have the money to back up your mouth or don't waste my time. It's really funny, the guys that are asking the questions are only dreamers or robbers. They know how much money we have into our cars.

I have people try to buy the Ratmobile all the time because it's unusual. I usually give them a price that's about twice what I think it's actually worth. That usually shuts them down - nobody's ever flipped out the cash or made a counteroffer yet. :pirat:

Thats what i do

A few times at gas stations or restaurants and I say it was a gift and will never be sold....
They are polite and say you sure don't see these on the road anymore and there parents or grandparents owned one. I enjoy talking to these kind of people and there stories, It seems like there was a few that used them on mail routs back in the day.

This happens all the time. I just say it's not for sale, most people respect that.

I had it happen to me at least once that I can remember. I only had my Demon for 2 years and it was like the first time I took it to Carlisle to show and a guy from Connecticut offered me $10,000 for it. I told him politely no thanks, not interested.

I get asked at least a dozen times a summer. I just say everything is for sale, just make me an offer I can't refuse. They usually just walk away and I have never had a serious offer from any of them.

Jack

I just say " I'm not trying to sell it but if you want it more than me then its yours..."

I live on Main st. in the town I live in and I get asked all the time but I always have my cars parked all over my yard.I had a guy ask me what I wanted for the 93 Iroc R/T?I told him that if he wanted my car it would take $25000 to make it his.He got mad at me and I laughed in his face and then I pointed out the fact is that you asked me what I want for it?Not whats its worth? You could see the steam rising off his head\\:D/
But on the other hand I have met some really great people also and I have people stop in and ask if I am interested in some parts or a car thats in there back yard all the time also.Enjoy life as its to short to be mad all the time.

Well it's kinda like a beautiful women being asked out on a date all the time, It's a complement.

Visiting a friend, and some dude is going around looking for the owner of my Charger. He wants to know if I want to sell it. Told him I didn't, it's my only car, and would need enough money to get another one. He asks how much, and I tell him $30,000. He says he doesn't really like Chargers, and I'm asking too much. WTF. I wouldn't sell my car cheap enough for him to make a ton of money on by reselling it? Leaches. One used to be able to get great cars cheap, but is anyone really driving around in a '69 Charger R/T, and not know that they are selling for a lot of money these days?

when asked i just say do you see anything that would make you think its for sale hang on it anywhere

I used to work with this colorful old man and he had the saying "that I'll sell anything I got except the old lady, and I'll give her away.

i have a 72 twister........... went into advance last night, and as i come out, some guy is standing near my car. as i walk to my door, he says " wow, how much you want for that bad azzzzzz cuda"!. i could not help myself. i just looked at him, turned around, got in my car and left. all the while he stood there looking stupid like he was. lmao

2 to 3 times a day, if they don't knock on the door they catch me in the garage or on the street, one guy wanted to trade me two chevys for the scamp when I told him they was the wrong brand he said his brother had two 69 mustangs he could trade the chevys for and I told him still the wrong brand, a few people got pissed when I told them it wasn't for sale at any price, one guy told me everything's for sale, I told him not everything is because the scamp is not.

I like it when you cap off a big number and the prospective buyer says " are you crazy?

I usually respond, "No, but, I was hoping you were." :)
Just spewed coffee on the monitor.......again.....Thanks crackedback....When I was hauling the Dart to AZ it was gutted. Car had been sitting in the desert its entire life so there was no paint. A guy came up to me and asked if it is for sale. Told him everything is for sale for the right $$$$. Asked me what that dollar amount might be and I told him if he paid me what I had into the car he could have it. He freaked out when I told him $5K. When my Fairlane was at my friends fab shop he had a customer bug him about my car. Doug threw out $30k just to shut him up, guy countered with $25k......should have sold it, would have more than doubled my money.......

What part of "I don't want to sell it" did he not understand. What would you have done if he said OK here's the cash.
:wack:

When I used to take my Dart to car shows at least once a summer I would get someone who I could tell was completely clueless, walk up and say "Is this your car? Is it for sale? How many (look at badges, to see what kind of car it was)Dart convertibles did they make?" Would tell them that I wouldn't take any less than $10,000. They wuld kind of look at the car then at me and say "oh" and walk away.
At one car show a guy was telling me that he had a Dart convertible at home that he was working on, but his was a bench seat car, he seriously asked me if I would trade my bucket seats for his bench, told him "nope, I'm kinda using them right now."

All my cars can be bought but you better have CASH in hand or a trade I like better than what I have, because I know where to find more.
