Number matching questions

Thanks for the help I found it now. It's C383, 1/25 and there was another number some distance from the 1/25. All the years I owned this car I never looked at this stuff. I bought it when I was 19 and it was about 1.5 years old.

So I assume the scheduled production date is in the shipping order number? I know the warranty card is dated 6/22. The car has the original radiator too. Through out it's life I had it repaired a few times. I understand it's desirable to have the orignial radiator. I took photos of the numbers under the distributor, the fender tag and the number on the front core support. Have to check them tomorrow.

I understand there is a date code on the 4-speed trans too. Where would that be located?

I'm going to complain to my agent about having to educate there so call expert group.

I'm going to find the title and order the documentation. Wife says it's in the safety deposit box. Probably is since I misplaced it once before over the years. :)

Yes, the scheduled production date is in the shipping order number, it is the first 3 digits. The next 5 digits are the Sequence Number.

All 8 digits should be the last digits on the bottom line of the fender tag.

The radiator support number and the trunk lip number should be the Year (7), the assembly plant (2), and the S.O number.

Is there a "1" under the lower case "u" at the top of the fender tag?
If so, that would indicate the car was ordered.
If I am understanding the dates you have given, I'm thinking that if the engine assembly date is 1/25, the build date of the car is close to that, and it was not ordered, then it would make (more) sense that the warranty card is dated in June.

Send me a pm if you need some help with the buildsheet, fender tag, etc.

Checked and no number 1 so it was not ordered. So it looks like engine was built 1/25 and the scheduled production date was 2/17. The core support has the correct number on it. Haven't checked the trunk yet but should be there. I assume the warranty card date is when the original owner picked up the car.

Isn't there also a production date on the trans? If so where?

Actually this special section of State Farm that my agent said was created to deal with cars like this doesn't know as much as they think. I remembered seeing the ad for the 67 GTS and it clearly says it is a GTS package.

See: http://www.foundationpc.com/brochure/67dartad.html

Call Haggerty or Grundy or one of the others that specialize in our cars.
If they are questioning you know what will they do if you need to file a claim??

So as far as I've gotten to the point of figuring out that from 1968 on they put a raised machined surface on the passenger side of the A833 4 speed with numbers on it. My 1967 GTS A833 4 speed has a raised flat part above the casting number but it isn't machined and has no numbers, which I assume makes it pre 1968.

So I found what looks like a date on a tag between two bolts on the cover plate on the side of the trans: 12 29 66.

First thing you should get is a set of Galen's "White" books, especially the production option code book for 66-68 and the parts interchange manual. Those 2 books will help you decode every aspect of the build sheet, and also allow you to run any part number form the dozens of items you should be checking for correctness. Such things as the radiator, the exhaust manifolds, the trans, intake and other items that will verify its authenticity and level of correctness. Some of these items are high dollar pieces which when in place will add to the value of your car. Next will be to learn how to decode the 67 fender tag, and how to correctly decode your build sheet. 68 and earlier are much more confusing than the 69 and later system, so be sure to pay attention.

As for the build date of your car, the difference between your motor assembly date and your scheduled production date are about right, but the sale date in June probably means this car was either dealer ordered, or maybe part of a batch of GTS's that were built and sent to higher profile dealerships. Either way it came out, you're a lucky man to have it. Check them numbers, it's in your n!!! Geof
