Which would be more fun, a 904 w/a 3000 stall or a 5 speed?

Which would be more funnerest on the street with 4.10 gears?

I have a 904 to go behind my 340, that is not installed yet. The 904 is rebuilt with a mancini reverse manual valve body, and a 2800-3200 stall converter. I have been reading on this board about fitting a 5-speed from a Dakota/Ram. I am wondering how fun is a reverse manual stalled trans compared to a five speed?

uhhhhh what was the question???

I have a lot of fun banging gears in my 4 speed car. Cost a lot more though seeing as you all ready have every thing for the auto.

If you like to actually drive go with the 5spd, if you like to just sit there and steer go with the auto. When it comes down to dollars and cents the auto will probably be the way to go since you already have it. Personally I hate automatics unless its in a racecar.

I have the best of both worlds...an A833 4-speed Dart for a wicked fun street car and a Duster with 727, shift kit and 3,500 PTC converter for racing consistency at the track. What do you plan on doing the most with the car?

With a reverse manual valvebody, I should have a it more control than a normal auto. I have never driven a manual valvebody or even a trans with a shift kit before.

It will be a 98% street driven car. It may see the track, once a year, or once every couple years, no serious racing though.

Ditto, I drive my cars, they don't drive me...:burnout:

I,m kinda glad mines auto. When I nail it its a handfull. Hard enough to click another gear on the manual valve body. But i guess if youre horsepower challenged to where you need a clutch to burn tires get a manual.lol

With those stiff gears and a manual trans it would be a handfull. You would
be all over the place. Tried to street drive the Duster with a set of 4.30s.
The back end wanted to do it's own thing. That was with an auto trans.

Then if it was mine, I would go with the 5-speed. Not a doubt. More expensive maybe...but worth it. My Dart can be a handful, but I like having control over everything myself. My Duster is boring on the street compared to it, and it's faster. LOL.

standards are more fun to me, but i voted to stay with the auto . with the high stall converter and 4:10s your car should really launch hard providing the tire can hook up.

Justin, are you just saying that so it will be done faster and you can talk me into letting you come over and drive it?

What are you doing with the car? As a DD a stick might get old after a while, especially if you live in an area with heavy traffic. Commuted for years with a stick, did not miss it one bit when I got a vehicle with a slush box. Old drag racing buddy swore by his stick shift, until he put a slush box in it then he swore at it.....Had several hot rods with sticks, were fun on the street but not so much at the drag strip.....ramble ramble ramble...sorry...

My husband gets tired of daily driving our truck with a 5-speed, I on the other hand love it each and every time I drive it. It just depends on the individual.

i have both, and the 4-speed is fun, but the auto in my demon is a bit more fun it has a shift kit, bolt in sprag, and a few other tricks, a 4,400 dynamic stall. its a blast to launch with the drag radials, and the kick you feel shifting at 6,500rpm is a blast. Auto is A lot cheaper in the long run if your going to run hard, I'm still running stock drive shaft, joints, rear axle and stock 4" sbp axles for the last 11 years.

bang the gears and enjoy the 5th gear rpm drop with a 5spd! i wanna do the 5spd swap in my dart, with a mild 360 and 3.55s

Had a lot of fun both on the street and the strip with my old '69 340 Swinger with a built 727 with a reverse manual valve body and 4.89 gears. The launch was the best part.
Of course with the 4.89s you had to be in 3rd gear by the time you got across an intersection or you'd end up chirping the tires with each gear change.
