I'm helping my friend with his dodge ram pick up today. I think he said its a 1985 or so. What he told me was, when he's driving uphill, his truck studders and chokes, and will sometimes die. I'm assuming its either because of the carb idle/mixture settings or a vacuum leak?

if this problem sounds familiar to anyone, please lemme know your thoughts.

Thanks.

Could be his carb float level is set to low or have him fill the gas tank right full or fuel then immediately find the same hill and see if it still does it. There could be a problem with the fuel pickup like broke off inside the tank and when he goes up the hill the pickup is uncovered.

If it sputter under load uphill could be plugs or plug wire causing the miss,To stall and die maybe more...Need more info,Year,Model,Engine size,Auto or Standard and more that is happening...

spark plugs were replaced but not gapped properly, so I took care of that today. Having trouble finding the fuel filter. Does anyone know where its located on a 1985 dodge ram 50? have a feeling it's really clogged.

car drives fine on flat. going uphill (in 3rd gear only) has trouble running and stalls.

I second the ignition problem, especially if you found the spark gaps were too large. My 2.4L min-van would miss on hard acceleration at ~45 mph, such as getting on the freeway. I found that lowering the spark gap from factory 0.060" to 0.055" was a standard fix for Neon turbo owners. It worked for me (twice). However, I had the same symptoms in my 225 Dart when the problem was a rubber fuel line collapsing, so could be starved for fuel. Both feel the same because both make cylinders miss ignition.

Is this a Ram 50 (Misubishi engine w/carb) or a D150, slant 6 with carb?

Imported ram 50 with mitsubishi engine and carb. t
