Hey I bought this reman thermoquad through summit. I installed it and thought the front port farthest to the drivers side would be the ported vacuum source. But when I put my vacuum gauge on it was manifold vacuum. I went through all the ports on it and couldn't find a ported vacuum source for the distributor. Does this carb not have it? I have looked for a clean picture of some one pointing out the ported vacuum source one a thermo quad but couldn't find one. I saw there was a write up on how to drill the thermoquad for a ported vacuum source but it kinda had crappy pictures too. If anyone could tell me if this carb has it is would be great. Also if you have a picture of one with ported vacuum that would be great.

I bought one from summit specifically for our 74 440 and it looked like it fell out of an airplane hitting a steel yard upongst landing and ran about the same way, so I returned to summit for a full refund and exchanged it for an Edelbrock AVS 800... My experience with a holley rebuilt TQ. I really like TQs. Just not that one I got. Just some info, not the info you asked for :)

Also there are these guys that seem to have some nice rebuilt TQs for about 150 - 200 each.

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know if any of the ports in the picture are the ported vacuum source for the distributor? There are also 2 ports on the back. One of them was plummed already to the choke pull off.

Somebody smarter will answer. On most carbs, the ported vaccum for the distributor is the small port on the front, passenger side. The similar one on the driver's side is usually full vacuum. I have a used ThermoQuad but haven't gotten around to installing it yet.

The vacuum outlet you are lookin for is stickin outta the plastic body.

Should be the one circled in red. The other two are full manifold vacuum.

Thanks for the responses. I had already put my vacuum guage on that and it was zero at idle which it should have been, i would assume like every other carb i have used that when the throttle blades open from me reving up it would have started to read vacuum, but nothing. I called the summit tech line and the guy was telling me that i would have to be driving down the road for it to start reading. I told him i rev'd it up to 3000 rpm it held it for a second and still didnt get a reading. He was so adiment that i need to tape a vacuum guage to my windshield and route a line under the hood and actually be driving around to see it pull ported vacuum. All the holley's and edelbrocks i have ever oned you just hook the guage up to the ported vacuum rev'd it in park and you could get a reading. Im gonna try his method, he said if it doesnt work they will send me a new carb, but has anyone ever heard of needing to do this to read ported vacuum.?

The vacuum readings you get while the engine is actually under load will differ. You have nothing to lose by trying and can confirm whether the port is working at all.
