Sort of depends on a few things:
How used is the gear set?
did it come from a stock street car, a built up street car or a heavily raced car?
How are you going to use it?
if you are racing with a high horsepower, high stall speed converter (or manual trans) , then you will want a fresh new gear, since you will only get so many launches from a gear set before it fails.
If you are building a street machine or a lightly raced dual purpose car then a used gear set may be a good way to save money.

PS:the 3:91 gears in my car came out of a 1961 dodge D-100 6 cyl/ 3 speed van with over 100K miles on it. they were then exposed to a year or so of use in a 1970 Charge RT with a built 440/375 auto trans. I used them for another year in my 1967 Barracuda street car powered by a 340/275 engine with auto trans. this year they have lived behind my 340 engine powering my 1973 dart sport to 12.90's @ 105 mph. 97 runs down the 1/4 mile this season already!
