I'm calling around for quotes on replacing the gasket for my windshield on my 74 Duster. I am getting quotes for $250.00 and more and I need to supply the gasket. Does this seem high? I really was thinking "hoping" for $150 range maybe it's been that long since I have had to have this done to any of my cars also if they break it, it's on me to replace the windshield. any input on prices or recommended places around Eastern Pennsylvania would be great.

there was a supply problem with windshield gaskets recently--- have you found a new gasket? $250 is probably not out of line-- more importantly-- do you trust them? Lawrence

Last I heard the gaskets were not available new. Exactly why I left the glass in my car.

I've seen them listed on Dante's and Classic Industries web sites. if they are unavailable their sites not reflecting that.

Call and ask. Ive bought from Dantes a bunch of times, Good service.

$250.00 just in labor???? Yes that is way too high.

Buy the bead installer tool. they are not that expensive ($20 or so). That windshield is a piece-O-cake to put in or take out. Pull the bead, losen the glass with a wooden wedge, take your shoes off and slowly push the windshield out with your feet. (may need a helper).

There are several on Ebay right now I just bought one 2 days ago...looks like there remaking them. $98.00 from Columbia parts, free shipping.

50.00 here for the front.
I would just cut the old gasket out and remove the glass once you get the new gasket in your hands.

If the goal is to stop a water leak, get under there and confirm the water leak is in fact the glass/gasket seal. Wiper pivots leak, vent box to cowl seals leak, etc..
It's my belief that the rubber only supports and seperates the glass from the metal. The sealant used does the sealing. If I properly clean the rubber for reuse my money is better spent on a new glass. Good luck eith it

Did i not read a forum on here a few months back that the aftermarket seals were not fitting properly , people were having problems getting there stainless back on . maybe not but i thgought i did.

X2 But just cut the old gasket out since you are changing it, makes it that much easer.
