Fuel Tank -16 gallons.....why can I only put in 10 gallons?

-
I ended up using my old arm with a new variable resistor from a new unit to get closer to true readings. The bent arm ones I have gotten always read wrong.

Now that post....really deserves a THANKS and you got it...BEFORE I hit the reply button.

Both of the pickups I have...matter fact I have (3)...they are all like the bottom one.

I have a FULL tank right now, 58,217 miles showing...and I am gonna get my gas can and see where "E" really is.

So did you find out where "E" really is? You could also try siphoning out the gas when your guage reads "E" (or really close to it) and see how much you get out.

Two good ideas. Run tank out or siphon fuel out when on empty. Either one should help get to the bottom of the problem.
My fuel gage. E is full F is empty?

mine does the same thing , bought the thing at the garlits show some time back.....

And I'll add this from a knowledgeable service tech at Auto Meter (with regards to aftermarket senders): ...(Auto Meter) gauges are calibrated to match a factory sender, which is very non-linear. 10 ohms = Full, 25 ohms = 1/2, 50 ohms = Empty, and 73 ohms = below Empty. With this said, most after market, or reproduction senders are built linear which means that E & F will be correct, but everything in between will be skewed.

I know this doesn't apply your issue directly but it's useful information.

Yeah, I tried that new "replacement" sender, then pulled it -- it was $#%@ useless. I found somebody who was changing over to 3/8 gas line and scored his old sender. Put a new sock on it and was good to go.

One other possibility: his tank could be collapsed from the top. Not really likely, but it is possible.

No problem.

Also because of the short arm and shorter than stock lever ratio, the gauge will show full for a long time and then rapidly go to empty. Another bummer.

i have 1/2 now reads empty
if i go fill it up gauge goes to full and drops fast when i drive it
3/8 lines new sender after market
it cost about $20.00 to fill it up lol
i think mine is in the sender but not % sure

Try filling up, and run it to 3/4 tank, fill up again. Repeat sequence for 1/2 tank and 1/4 tank.

Post the data her, and we can interpolate for you.

Mine was:
Full = 0 gallons added
3/4 = 5 gallons added
1/2 = 7 gallons added
1/4 = 9 gallons added
1/8 = 12 gallons added.
E = ? Never got that far....

I have the shorter arm on my unit, price I paid to get a 3/8 line. Like mentioned above, stays full for a while, the drops quickly to 1/8 and holds. I have never put 12 gallons in mine, but it is a 16 gallon tank
