How much did you pay for your A Body

-
i paid $90.00 for mine back in 1986...........the guy had it advertised in the paper for a $125.00 and stated it didn't run. when i went over to look at it, it was just what i was looking for..........a 66 two-door hardtop valiant, r1 yellow with a vinyl top. left frt. fender was hammered, the rest of the body was ok.

so i ask the dude "does it turn over?"

suddenly the price goes down to $110.00. he states he doesn't know, so i get out a socket set up to turn the crank on the slant.

price goes down again..........100.
i tell him i don't care if the motor is good, its coming out anyway, i just want to know if i could start it to drive it home.

i put the socket on the crank, it turns about a quarter turn then locks up.

"ok" he says, "90.00" and points out that it has a brand new starter.

i say "kewl" and give him the cash. after i get it home i take the starter off of it, there's a hole in the block behind the starter about the size of a softball. lol.........

i guess #5 decided to exit. heh.........
higgs

here it is today.......

my first i payed $700.00 for it back in 93, it was 69 dart custom gold with a white paited top 225 with factory air. man i miss that car

Purchased in 1993. The seller wanted $5500.00, but agreed if he took out his aftermarket radio and amp, he would take $3000.00. I bought it right on the spot.

I paid $2000 for mine three years ago but had to put another $1000 into getting it roadworthy. Then paint ( I work in a body shop) then put the super six in her just 2 weeks ago with alot of help from friends. We still have some tinkering to do but it's been fun

My absolute favorite year/color/option Duster and maybe A Body.

Paid $1500 Day after Black Friday this year for a Matching Numbers 73 340 JF1 Duster. Sat in that spot in a field for over 10 yrs cause guy started havin medical problems. It is all complete minus carb and air cleaner. Brought home put on a carb and filter put in a battery and it cranked over after many years of sitting and being locked up (used lots of B12 Chemtool to fix that). Runs so smooth and doesnt skip a beat. We have been takin the 5 layers of paint off and bringin it back to the factory JF1 Green and it looks good. Also rebuild brake system this weekend. Didnt spend a dime on it except battery. Had everything layin around brand new in the box and reused the plug wires from the dart. Also have all the brake parts needed to get them working.

Got the Dart just over 4 years ago for $2000. It was supposedly rebuilt 360 but drove it home and it died and started to have a really bad knock. But has over $2000 worth of parts on it. I have completly ripped it apart and put it back together and recently pulled the engine and it needs all the bearing and the cam was wiped and the stainless valves were hitting the factory flat top pistons. Completly rebuilt the 8 3/4 with Dr Diff axels and soon swaping the 3.23 SG Pumpkin for 3.55 SG Pumpkin and throwin bigger tires on it and wheel with a different backspace.

Picked up my '74 Duster in 2006. I really wanted a '71 340 Demon or a 340 'Cuda/Challenger, but settled for the '74 Duster because it was within driving/towing distance (mind you, I was a teenager)

Paid $630. That included the price of the car, title fees, and the gas to tow it home :D Did I mention it was a numbers matching 318/904 car, with A/C and Rear Defroster. It came with 7 extra sets of interior (3 of those sets were Dart Sport "Hang 10" interiors), brand new brake hoses, brake pads, brake shoes, NOS Control Arms, NOS Spindles, NOS Starters, blah blah blah blah.

The car was filled to the ceiling with parts, the trunk was packed to the top with parts, and I piled so much stuff in the bed of my dad's GMC S15 pickup that I had to run ratchet straps over the pile to hold everything down.

It sat outside for about 3 hours after I towed it home, and I thought to myself "Well, I might as well start putting it back together." (It had been partially torn down for a restoration). I put it on the lift and saw the freeze plugs were rotted out. Yanked the 318 out and put it on an engine stand (7 years later that 318 is still on the engine stand)

When I bought it, it had Plum Crazy Purple Paint, and Black AAR style stripes, the fenders/hood were off a different car (White/primer with some surface rust).. Sorry about the horrible pictures. I had a really crappy camera when I bought that car

2011 was the last time I drove it, after that the car was torn down for a restoration while I built the new 6-71 Blown 340 engine for it. I'd like to drive it this year, but I know that won't happen. I'd have to find the money for Headers, Exhaust, Methanol Injection, Carbs, plus a bunch of other stuff.

Oh yeah, remember I said that I was looking for a '71 340 Demon or a 340 Cuda/Challenger when I settled for the '74 Duster... Yeah, the week after I bought my car I found a '71 340 4-Speed Demon and a '71 340 4-Speed 'Cuda (both within driving distance) for only slightly more than I paid for my Duster. :banghead:

'76 Duster - $1,000 in Feb 2005. 99,000 original miles. Good running slant six, trashed interior, sloppy steering, shaky front brakes, Macco paint job, busted grille, rock solid body and frame.

Fixed all the mechanical issues, all new interior, new exhaust, new grille.

The 1st pic is when I initially looked at it. That's the owner in the background. He was really bummed that he had to sell it.

2nd pic is more recent after all the work and 103,000 miles. Need to sell it cause it will no longer pass Cali smog requirements. Bummer.

Bought my first Duster for $500 bucks back in 1996. It was one owner, 68k and spotless, pulled the slant and put it in a friends tired scamp. Bought a donor race Dart for $500 and swapped over the k-frame, suspension, disc brakes, the cammed 440 with 727 behind it and the 8 3/4 rear. Also took the seats as well as they were better looking. Lifted the rear dropped the front. It was fun....

My wife bought this for me for a belated "40th" birthday gift in May 2012. I went and looked at it... offered low, because it still needed some work. We settled at $4500, drove it home (2 hr). It is a Scamp car, 318 was in it until November, building a 360 and restoring the engine bay for it. I can't wait to get it back together!

Well when I found it abandoned at a gas station with #1 piston & rod hanging out of the block & in dire need of some TLC & a resto... It was $1500 back in 96 I think it was. Plus $300 to the tow truck to haul it the 5 hours to my door.

List of Mopars over the years starting with my first car when I was 15.

(year 2000) 1973 Gun Metal Grey Challenger 340 car - $1500
(year 2006) 1970 Dart 318/904 $2500
(year 2008) 1969 Satellite 318 $3000
(year 2010) 1973 Duster non-factory 340 6-pak $11,000

Duster had just been completely restored with all receipts. Reputable local engine builder and shop did all the work (new fenders, quarters, go-wing, six pak hood) and painted in Plum Krazy. Owner had about $30,000 invested in the entire restoration. Due to divorce he was selling all his toys and I had to scoop it up; since I knew it would cost more to build than buy.

I bought my 1974 Dart Swinger last year for 11.500 $ in Hamburg.
I was sitting with my son (30) in the garden and thinking about the good old times... When we where at home, watching TV, especially "married with children". At this time I sometime felt like Al Bundy - less money, a woman that burns what I earn and a son with problems at the girls.
So we sat together, 20 years later, and remebered that Al was always talking about his 74 Dodge. My son looked - just for fun - at he local craiglist and found the Dodge only 5 miles away from us. We called up, met the owner and felt in love at once with the Dodge... 1 hour later the car was paid, 2 hours later it stood in front of my house...
2 weeks later I showed it to some friends that are Mopar-owners, and I had to realize that I was robbed...
No matter - the car is now in restauration, and in April/Mai 99% of restauration will be done...
