Valiant vs Peterbilt. It's on on demand. Just gotta watch it when its on . Just like American graffiti and Hollywood knights. Just thought some of you might wanna catch it too.

Just watched the dvd I borrowed from the county library. Somehow I thought I'd seen it before and it was cheesy but that must have been another movie, because it was really well done. It had extra features where Steven Spielberg talked about how it was made as a TV Movie of the Week and shot all on location in 12 days.

The only thing I didn't like was the Valiant blew a radiator hose and overheated to the point of the oil light coming on and the engine shutting down....Dennis Weaver was able to start it up again and drive it for quite a ways again without any coolant.

Hey, it was probably a slant! Maybe you were thinking of another car movie that was pretty goood to, "The Car" I think it was a Barris modded '71 Lincoln MKIII, possessed of course.

we had a discussion about this film a few years ago, low budget filmed in Acton, CA. The shots of the truck driving fast were shot with a wide angle to simulate speed as the POS they used couldnt do more than 40 mph. Lots of editing mistakes too but a fun movie none the less. And they chose a red car to contrast with the blue skies, genius!

In the interview, Spielberg said he didn't care what kind of car they used, so long as it was red...but the stunt drivers were veterans in the industry and I bet they chose the Valiant knowing it would handle and take the beating it got.

The low camera angles showing the rear quarter view really showed off the good styling of the Valiant. A Falcon or Nova wouldn't have looked near as good.

The El Rey channel ,shows it often. Great late night flick.

It was Spielberg's first film project. As a film student at UCLA.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking...lol. We did that with one too. Battery into the fan and radiator, hole in the oil pan, both lights opn when it stalled. Jumped it with another car and she fired back up. What killed it was it was fo far into the woods and 1/2 way over a big log, that the jumper cables wouldn't reach the 2nd time...lol.

there's a great low-angle fixed shot where the car comes past and the bumper takes a chunk out of a fence post- always liked that one

great post-would read again.

I always thought Dennis Weaver's character was a pu$$ywhipped milquetoast and I never fail to cheer on the Mack truck driver ... maybe it's just me.

Have any of you ever noticed in the beginning of the movie Torque that the guys on the motorcycles pass a red Valiant and a Mack truck??? I don't know for sure but would be willing to bet both movies were shot in the same place and Torque's director just tossed that in there to test us Mopar fans. :-D
