Not Mopars you heard about, but Mopars you actually had a chance to purchase.

I'm sure all can list quite a few.

Date

January 1971

* 1966 Dodge Coronet 500, 426 Street Hemi, 4-Speed, Black w/Black Vinyl Top and White Interior.

* Dodge Coronet 500 '426 Hemi' {1 of 340 built}.

* Details to long to list, but the Coronet 500 only had 7000 Miles on the Odometer, and it had been off the Road since 1968.

* I offered the Girl who owned it $2000 Cash. I could have offered her more.

* She said she'd think about it, and call me back in a few days and let me know.

* I didn't here from her for 3-Weeks, so I decided to called her back.

* She said she had lost my Telephone Number, and in the meantime she sold the Coronet 500 '426 Hemi' for $1900.

It was the 'first time' a Girl had broken my Heart.....

Here it is in 1967....

1987
68 RR 383 4 speed Red black int. MINT body $3000 Went back two days later gone.

1988
70 RR 440+6 4 speed Orange black int. $6000 Had $4500 saved up the rest went back gone 2 weeks later

1970 Superbird, yellow 440 car that had a 383 swapped in. Sat beside a little garage for 3 or 4 years before I stopped in to ask if it was for sale. It was in about 1976 and there was a half dozen rough looking (to me) guys passing a joint around when I walked in the door. One of the guys said he had swapped in a 383 for the owner but the owner never came back and paid the bill.
I asked if it was for sale and he said he was tired of looking at it. Said to give him a $100 bill and get it out of there. Wouldn't give me a bill of sale so I passed. I was afraid the cops would nail me when I pulled it out of there without any papers. A week or so later it was gone. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Dallas

Had a chance at a '67 Hemi GTX. Was sold before Pop and I could get to it. Early '90's. Package deal with a 392 powered '57 Chrysler. $1000 for both. Pop was going in with a co-worker. The co-worker wanted the Chrysler. As they were heading to the guy's house a rollback passed 'em going the other with both cars.

Missed out on a '40's something Power Wagon, too. Complete, with a wrecker boom on it. Had just gotten laid off from a job and couldn't spare the money for it.

these are a few I could have purchased but did not. 69 hemi charger, A-12 super bee, 65 AFX dodge altered wheel base. ( with local race history) 70 AAR cuda ( sassy grass green) and many other's

1969 1/2 A12 Superbee 4 speed car. It was sitting at a farm I got a job at when I was 17, under a tree. Asked how much...$400!! They told me I could work it off!! Worked for a week getting ready for a horse show on the weekend, they paid me and a buddy $20 for the week and worked us to death. Never went back... Drove by a couple years later, farm sold, car gone!!

I'm sure my brother will chime in here and tell how I wouldn't co-sign for a loan so he could buy a Superbird from Bob Peck!! Geof

A 1971 Hemi Cuda,Vert. It was in 83.Two blocks from my house. I thought the $11,000 price tag was way outta line. I didn't have a clue.
Lucky for the original owner he he ended up keeping the car and just finished up the restoration a couple of years ago. It's now his retirement fund.

A unrestored 1972 Demon, 340 3-speed, green paint, black top, stripes and mint black interior with a split high back front bench...less than 50K miles and was beautiful! Had the snorkel hood scoop too. Owner blew up the original 340, swapped in a built 73 340 and a 4-speed, car even had the original rallye rims on it, bunch of rare nos parts (even though the car didn't need them) ran very good! I was 15 years old at the time and dad was gonna get it for me, the guy accepted our $3000 offer, but it was late Saturday and couldn't go to the bank, called him back on Monday and he never answered his phone again or answered his door....car disappeared....just before he accepted our offer, he said "my dad is gonna kill me for selling this"....maybe he did :banghead:

It was in my area too, I never saw it again. That one broke my heart......that was 21 years ago and its still hard to even talk about it....car was like new :sad5:

Another One,

December 1972

* 1970 Dodge Dart 'Swinger 340' - 4-Speed - Color; C7 Plum - White Vinyl-Top - White Interior - White Bumble Bee Stripe -
Performance Hood Treatment w/Dual Scoops and Hood Tie-Down Pins

* The owner was going back into the Military in 2-Weeks

* Only wanted $1700 {approximate}, for the 'Showroom Condition Dart'

* We agreed on the price, but he said that he needed to keep the Dart for another 2-Weeks,
then I could come back and pick it up.

* I gave him a $100 Deposit.

* I called him back in 2-Weeks but nobody answered. After a few more 'unanswered' Telephone calls,
I headed over to his house with my friend {25 miles away} with $1600 Cash in my pocket.

* Upon arriving, there it was in the driveway......'totalled'......and with the front-nose gone, front-frame
twisted like a pretzel, and the engine and transmission already removed {and sold}.

* He had gotten drunk one-night, and attempted to drive the Dart through an Oak Tree.

* He asked me if I wanted the rest of the car for another $200.

* Funny Guy
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* I had wanted it, to race it the 'upcoming NHRA Stock Class for 1973, {as the NHRA had gone back to Pure-Stock}.

* The 1970 Dodge Dart 'Swinger 340' weighed in at {#3179 lbs.}, and it fit perfectly into 'F/S' for 1973, with the new
NHRA Horsepower factors.

OK. This thread is getting me depressed.

1983- green 68 Superbee- 383 four speed with a tunnel ram and duel quads. Could have not the car for $600.00 and passed!! Car was a driving car at the time.

1977- complete 426 hemi out of a 71 Cuda- again $600.00 and I passed!!

Didn't say that I was overly bright.

My missed op was a 70 Challenger Rt/se in Butterscotch with a black and white houndstooth interior! That was 1988. I delivered newspapers to the guy, he had a well built but mild 383 in it and an auto with 3.23's! It was also wearing Weld Superlite's. sold for $1500 to a guy who just inherited a ton of money from his dead father! Blew it up in 6 months, free revved it to 7k to show off every chance he got! After he destroyed it he destroyed a Daytona! L time favorite Mopar to me! I would have still had it !!

70 TA challenger for 400. bad trans passed 70 super bird 440 six pack 3,000 couldn't come up with the money .1982 married with 2 kids that's life.Bob

Not me but my dad. He had a choice between a 1971 Hemi Cuda convertible auto and a 1970 LS6 Chevelle SS convertible 4 speed. Both cars were fully loaded/optioned and about $500 difference (the cuda was cheap because it was an auto). He opted for the 4 speed, one month later the Chevelle was stolen and promptly wrapped around a telephone pole. Three after the car was totaled he tried to buy the Cuda but the guy sold it the day after the chevelle was totaled. He missed the same Cuda twice but I'm sure the second time hurt more, especially by just two days.

In 1985 a guy had a 70 challenger 440 6-pac 4-speed with 60K on it in the paper for $1000.00.
I went and looked at the car drove it and put a deposit on the car and said I would be back in a couple of days with the rest to pay for the car.

The flood of 85 here took the car and garage before I could pick it up, the guy did give me my deposit back.

To this day for over a decade. A 1970 440 Cuda 727 Burnt orange ext and interior. Its a one owner car ordered by the now 80 something gentleman. His wife wanted him to sell it 10 years ago. He didnt want to sell as he had just restored it. But he was having some issues with it and couldnt work on it. He didnt want his son to get it because he feared he would destroy it. I tried and tried but he just couldnt let it go. I now have lost touch with him. But that is just one of a long list. Keep looking and trying.

In 1980 I found a 69 Satellite Convertible 440 auto in great driver condition. Guy wanted $400 cash to go partying. It was a Sunday so I gave him $100 and a cheque to hold the car and went searching for a Bank.....

Came back an hour later and you guessed it. Car was gone.

I'm sure there were more, but those are the ones that stick out because I did have the cash, but didn't do the deal for some reason or another.

Mint 67 charger, to young to remember alot about it, but it had the four bucket seats. Its whatever year the charger with the slant back glass is.

Also, missing out on the legendary (around this neck of the woods) 73 Cuda with a 340. Every mopar fien around has tried to buy the car, and he wont sell. Been there forever, and has rusted away. Total loss except some of the drivetrain. Pisses me off everytime I see it. Cause I sell my projects so this kind of thing doesnt happen. If somebody asks me, and I just cant restore it for whatever reason, I sell in hopes of a better future for the car.

1982 should have gotten a like new '71 Cuda 340 convertible, never was in the rain. I didn't have a garage to keep it in so I knew it would get wasted in the Michigan winters. The bad news; looks just like the car in the Nash Bridges TV show.

Approximately 1990 a friend with no money found a front engined Hemi rail drag car with red & white strips on it that had sat around since '71. I never tried to hard to get it because what do ya do with it?

My co-workers retired Dad found the first '70 Hemi Cuda, vin 000001. Didn't have original engine and it was neglected. I think this car has been in a few magazines.

About 5 years ago a friend of a friend found the '70 Chrysler 300 convertible I had from about '83 to '87.
