I promised myself (and several members here) I would share the progress on fixing up my Valiant. I promised I'd start as soon as the reassembly started, and...I almost did. So, better late than never, I guess. I'm not very far into the project, so catching up should be fast.

First, for those who care...a quick history:

April, 1997. Plymouth Valiant converts a Mustang fanboy at first site.

Painted in 2000. Here we are in the college campus parking lot in 2002.

Disc brakes August 2006. My first major project on the car.

Daily driven until 2011, when some jerk cut me off. A bad transmission mount caused the engine to bang into the firewall. I started to take the radiator out. Then I kept taking parts off.

I may have gotten a little carried away.

A little rotisserie blasting later...

This is about where we are. A friend and I got the rear frame rail patched. The front frame rail is 95%.

Thanks to this forum, I have most of the parts I need to start putting the body back together. I'll do my best to keep you updated on the trials and tribulations that go with the restoration. Here goes nothin'.

Cool!!! Maybe I will see some of the many parts you bought from me in this thread

Ha! No kidding, Keith. Just about all the cool stuff for the car I bought from you. Hopefully I'll get to that part of the build sooner than later. There is still plenty of rusty sheet metal to go though.

The missus and I did a little winter cleaning since the weather was so nice. Ready for me to make it all messy again! :) No before pics, but it was pretty bad.

Thanks! I'm hoping mine will be around for a long time.

Got the frame rail patch finished up tonight. Welded in some supports to replace a gusset that rotted away in the middle.

And a little Bloxide to seal everything up.

That's it for tonight.

Ripping out the inner and outer valances to replace them with some fresh New Mexico sheet metal. Lots of fun with a plasma cutter and hammer and dolly. Plenty of dents to pound out. Went pretty well considering I've never shaped metal before. We'll see that happens when I try to put it in. My friend Ben has been really helpful with coaching me through a lot of the newbie fear. He finished restoring his '64 Dodge D100 CSS a few years back and he's been kind enough to take pity on my rank amateurness.

Where was I? Oh yes. Patches. I got the inner valence patch in. Got some more holes hacked in the floor for patch panels. Lots of plasma cutting and welding in my near future.

Thanks! They are more or less accounted for. The inner quarters are pretty rough, and there's a fair amount of pinholes on the driver's side, but it's more or less there.

I am really bad at updating this.

So...what have I been up to since early February?

So...that's that. I want to say I'll be better at updating, but if not, I'll see you in in six more months.

where'd ya get the wheel well patches? im getting no where finding a 1/4 for my wagon, i just might use sedan wheel wells..

Yeah, wagon wheels are tough to find. I wish I could graft some on my car. I got them from Layson's Restorations. I know a can of worms gets opened every time their name gets mentioned, but they were helpful over the phone and the fit wasn't bad at all.

The floor pans I got from them are definitely for later A bodies, but they work okay with a little gusseting and hammering. I'll still recommend them and shop from them again. I need some trim pieces they sell.

As I understand it from reading on this site for a wagon you can use front fender pieces as they have a more open wheelwell.
