which diff oil to use

-
LXGuy had a recommendation on a previous post....."Royal Purple diff oil is worth the price over mineral just for the fact that your garage doesn't end up smelling like Brontosaurus diarrhea when doing a gear swap."

Enough to make me want to use it!

They guy who rebuilt my rear end told me to use 85W/140 and the limited slip additive

I like the plain old 90 weight with the Ford friction modifier. It works good.

Amsoil 75/90 synthetic Gear Lube with a ''limited slip'' additive. Bites good and no noise.

I ran the Mopar modifier in my fresh Power lok and it chattered BAD, tried more, made no difference. Called Cass,Dr.Diff, and explained what was happening and I thought for sure I broke a cross shaft or something and needed to pull it back apart. He said it sounded like the exact same thing he experienced with a Power lok he rebuilt in one of his pickups. He said to drain it and fill it back up again except use GM!! limited slip additive this time before I pulled the pumpkin, and the thing has been smooth as butter ever since. I couldnt believe it either but my guess is the Mopar stuff is formulated for Track-lok and maybe cone style diffs.

They have special blend of gear oil for sure grip differentials. Look on the bottle to make sure you get the sure grip stuff. Most manufacturers have a sure grip blend.
