is the p4452782 268/276 .429/.44 centerline 114 degrees states idle-5800.

is this a good street cam for a hot little 318? any sound clips out there of it?

No sound clip, but yes. For a mild teen with a dual plane, small 4bbl, headers or at least duals, some good tuning, and a rear gear at least 3.23, you can have a very nice driver with some punch. As far as sound, you'll get more of a broken/burble type idle, but if it runs crisp and clean....who cares:D.

I'm sure some would pick a more modern grind, and yes, they make a few more ponies, but lobes on that cam are soft enough to allow a lot of trouble free miles with a mild valve spring. It really depends on your total combination and how much power you're really looking for.

Excellent overview Old-Man-Rick,

We use that Camshaft in every Marine 318 4-Barrel that we rebuild.

A good and reliable - meat-and potato's Bumpstick.

I've used that cam with Rhoades lifters and it was a great street engine. Holley 600 vac secondary, stock dual plane intake, 9.2 compression, dual exhaust, with a 7 1/4" axle with 2.76 gears got 17.75 mpg.

A cop that pulled me over once after I nailed it around a corner (no spinning tires) was pretty impressed with the acceleration. I told him, "That's just some old parts that I threw together..."

well, its a mild to hot 318 .30 9.1 decked block, ported heads, orignial torquer intake, holley 4bbl, electric ignition, (msd).. a904 lock up, hemi 5/1 kick down ratio arm in trans.. mild shift kit, upgraded 4 planet 1st gear set, orignal hurst dual gate shifter, 3.55 gear posi.. i'm expecting it to run like a bat out of hell for an in town street car... scare the 5.0 mustangs with flow masters.... running moroso spiral muffler piped into home made side pipe exhaust. total 1970's-80's ride. everyone loves it and can't wait for me to get it back on the road after a rebuild.. oh yah has a mild 100 nos shot in the trunk now too... that will make them wet there pants...

That will run like gang busters with the 340 cam.

I bet it'll run pretty well!

Are you talking about Fox 5.0 Mustangs, or '11-up 5.0s?

With a 'hit' of 100 N.O.S.

Up a step up in the Camshaft is well worth it.
* Lift.............................. .455" to .470"
* Advertised Duration..... 266* to 274*

Any of um. They're all pieces of crap. lol

Oh yeah? well you gots bug eyes!! LOL

FWIW, new 5.0s run low 12s off the floor with slicks...old Fox Mustangs stock would run 14.0 with slicks...13.7 with a good driver and good air.

TX,from my school..(lol). In 88,my buddy's notch LX(49 state ),clicked off a 12:20 e.t.,with long tube headers,slicks,and a 75 dry shot.

Movin along pretty well there-especially from a speed density 5.0! I'd imagine your buddy was a good driver too!

well, just the teenage kidos around here and rice buckets that have coffee can mufflers or just a set of flow masters just would love to intimadate them, ya think the xe-268 would run better? would like a little more lump. thought of the hughes whiplash, like a said total street car with some playing manners...

download camquest6 at compcams.com

Ive known several people who bought cams after running all the numbers and had excellent results

have heard good things about the small thumpr and also the whiplash

Camqueer? You caint be serious.

Any of the 268 cams would probably work pretty well, OldmanRick pretty much sealed it for the MP 340 cam since it has less agressive lobes it'll probably be well suited to your application, and I'm pretty sure SirDan runs a basically stock 318 bottom end with a 340 cam and a 4 speed. He was very happy with it to my recollection, but I also don't recall him saying anything about chasing down the fartcan brigade either.

don't get too ambitious though-some of those "tuner" cars out there have figured out the wonderful world of forced induction and those little 1.6 and 1.8L soupcan piston having 4 poppers can surprise the crap out of you...especially the cheaters driving the AWD STi Subarus...

How many big block brand X cars got embarrassed with a Mopar usin "just" the 340 cam? Nuff said.

Ooo! that ought to be fun-looks like a "legacy" style grind

Hope it is, lol.
