Anyone own one or have driven one? Particularly interested in the 5.7 R/T or the 6.1 SRT8.

Fast?
Mpg?
Reliable?
Comfortable?

I've wanted one since they came out and now that prices are starting to come down on em I may try and sell off all my parts and my Valiant to at least get an R/T 2wd version.

Had one brand new in 2007. R/T model.
Kept it 4 years.....a lot of issues. Mainly front tie rods, brake rotors.
Mine was a low mileage pampered one too when I sold it. It
spent too much time at the dealership garage.
Poor build quality.

I remember seeing them on the road all the time. Now I rarely see one.

I will let you do the reading between the lines and form your own opinion.

I had a 2006 R/T
Fast, cool looking car, great Family hotrod/pickup
Loved the car BUT way too many front end issues. Loved the car so I put up with the repairs until over 200K........got a hemi RAM.

Don't have one. But They are cool!

Kinda my thoughts. Have wanted to get one and do a lot of engine mods and what not. You know "surprise" people with a wagon

About the front end issues: are the rotors prone to warping? Rack and pinion issues other than the rod ends? I was under the impression they shared the same chassis/suspension platform as the 300/charger/challenger.

Wonder if someone makes aftermarket (better quality) front end components for em??

Most of the driving out here is up and down. There's a hill on every road, not too mention poor maintenence. Not very forgiving on front ends...that's for sure. I'm pretty sure our 06 Commander needs new rod ends and ball joints already and we just use it as an everyday/family vehicle...no offroading at all.

That is odd, I average about 12,000 miles a month on the countries roads and I rarely see them anymore. I did see one just the other day though.

I have had mine for 45k (107k on car now). Runs great. Other than my wife running into things only problem I have had is front rotors. Just put new ones on at 100k. Gets 18-20 around town and 24-26 on road trips.

I have an 05 RT since 06. It's absolutely mint even as it approaches 160k. Mine is a zero option RT so no frilly stuff to go bad. The front end parts are cheap and easy to replace. Those parts last about 80k. I've done the typical brakes, emergency brake shoes, AC compressor and shifter interlock repair. Other than maintainance, it's a great car an all mercedes suspension. It's one of the few cars that is real solid even years down the road.

I never cared for the sloping back end. I always wanted to get one and redesign that part of the car.

Thats true, I never see them any more myself.....

I have an 05 R/T AWD it has 189,000 miles on it runs great gets around 16-18 mpg with the poor quality gas around here when i get better fuel it gets 20-24 mpg on the highway.
I had to have some stuff repaired under warranty but over all it has not needed much in the way of repairs other than stuff that wears out over time I have only put one set of front & rear brakes on it since new and i did up grade the brakes with cross drilled rotors and ceramic brake pads. As far as mods I have done to it, it has been lowered 6-8" all around with coil over suspension, custom hood, SRT 8 instrument cluster, it has headers & the mile an hour and rev limiter have been removed with the AWD it runs 14.30's in the 1/4 mile and I have had it run 140 mph with out a problem. This is a every day car. I hope this is some help good luck

had an 07 magnum. only the 3.5 v6 though.

the car itself we loved. plenty of functional room, comfortable and rode /handled nice for how we used it. the 3.5 was very smooth running and had plenty of power for us. best we ever got was 25mpg. most of the time on the highway it was low 20's and around town in the teens.. i believe the 5.7 gets that or better mpg.

if it wasn't such a pile of **** we would probably still own it.

we had the car for about 3 years. before 40,000 miles we had two fuel pumps replaced (had to go back a second time because th eassholes screwed up the gaskets or something. filled the tank and the entire car smelled like gas), the shifter replaced twice, tie rod ends done, the rotors were warped to hell by 20,000 miles. it always had a twitch in it that felt like it was in the trans or converter ( a ton of tsb's on the converters but not for our cars build date) . there were a bunch more of little nagging things along with the bigger things i listed. all fixed under warranty but a real pain in the *** to be at the dealer about every other month with a car that is under 40,000 miles.

the dodge dealerships suck in this area. the one i did trust that was 5 minutes away and had been there forever the assholes at chrysler decided to force to close. some of the issues and frustrations came from the dealerships. but to me all that crap needing to be replaced at under 40,000 is unacceptable...

traded that **** box in on our 07 camry.

damn shame, the magnum was a cool car and very functional but ours was a pile of **** and was the last newer mopar i bought and will ever buy.

They are all over the place here in Detroit. I Love these cars and I really want a Hemi one! I have never really talked to anyone that has had one for along time.... Never the less would totally own one if I could.

Had a 2007, a rwd RT with no options, Steel Blue (only one I have seen in that color to this day) over light gray leather. General stuff: ALL hemi Mags have leather interiors. Heated seats are optional. They're pretty loaded as an R/T: heated power mirrors, CD/Sirius radio (Boston Acoustics), power seat, tilt-telescope column, and power adjustable pedals are all standard. Sunroof, automatic climate control, an upgraded stereo with sub and Bluetooth, and other stuff are optional.

I put not quite 90K on mine. Absolutely stone reliable. My only complaint was the front rotors warping...I replaced them with OE-type replacements, there are aftermarket slotted rotors (SSBC...?) that are a permanent fix. Note that despite this, the brakes are huge (IIRC, 14" front rotors!) and are very good.

Mileage was 19-22 (all E10) for the most part...the car took about a 1MPG hit in the winter when I ran snow tires. The Hemi calls for 89 octane, though 87 is "acceptable". I ran 89 in summer...the car took a MPG hit on 87, though it was fine in the winter. Best tank ever was on the 2009 Power Tour, a touch over 25MPG on non-E10 gas.

The OE tires (GY Assurances) are awful in snow, but with a set of Winterforces (stock 225/60R18 size), the car was limited only by ground clearance! The traction/stability control system is superb. Had one out-of-warranty repair...a front wheel-speed sensor failed. IIRC, part & labor (dealer) was about $85.

2007 had a bad run of wheels...the finish tended to peel. Mine did, the dealer replaced them with no problem. If yours won't...well, you have winter wheels for the snow tires and an excuse to get a set of SRT8 wheels for summer. :D Note: 20's are optional on the R/T; 18's will work for the winter. The base-model Magnum/Charger 17's will NOT work on an R/T!

Very comfortable car. Note that these are BIG cars: on the scale at work, mine was 4300lbs with driver and half a tank of gas. Avoid the 2.7...it's nowhere near enough for the weight.

I was under the impression they shared the same chassis/suspension platform as the 300/charger/challenger.

They do share the platform with the charger and the 300 but the challenger is shorter but mostly the same.So if you get a chance test drive a hemi charger or 300 and it will drive/ride almost identical.I have an 06 Daytona Charger(has factory upgraded seats and suspension) and its the smoothest most comfortable car I have been in and I've been in several new cars.I have actually been looking for one myself as a DD but they are hard to find and the ones that still have one don't want to part with them.

I've got the 3.5 AWD in my 05, approx 130K on it. Don't think I ever got more than 20 mpg. Love the car, excellent for driving in snow, but it has had some issues. Replaced cluster, front sway links (twice), All brakes including e-brake shoes and front rotors changed to drill/slot, Left front drive cv axle. Flex coupler on exhaust pipe, Put a billet replacement in for the little junk plastic shift lock. Biggest complaint is the tailgate won't stay up. Replaced the gas lifts a couple times, but still falls when it is cold.

I'm 78 years old and have an 2005 R/T.Actually it's for Sale.
It's never been in salt OR snow.
I've read and even re-read some of those comments.Kinda wondered
if some of these people have even ridden or drove a Magnum.
Anyway my 2 cents worth. Thanks for listening

That's your two cents? What is your input other then you are 78 years old and your magnum is for sale???

Go get one, they have no more problems than any other LX platform car. Outer tie rods are cheap, There was a recall on the shifters so they don't break... blah blah, just get one with either hemi, 5.7 or 6.1 ... those 2 engines are virtually problem free, and the NAG1 is a good trans ...

I can offer up a lot of info about them. I have had two magnums, an R/T and a SRT and loved them both. We currently have a Charger R/T and it's the same car with different skin. Like said above, they have their fair share of front end issues. Fairly inexpensive to replace the faulty goodies with greasable Moog or better parts. The issue with the shifter was a little plastic piece that releases the shifter when you put on the brake pedal. If it breaks you can pop out the cell phone holder and there is an access hole to press it manually. They are very well built cars over all, and the engine and tranny is virtually indestructible. I had around 1000 1/4 mile passes on my SRT and you wouldn't know it by driving it. The only reason I sold my SRT8 Magnum was to get an older non computer controlled car for bracket racing. If we were not putting my wife through school at the time I would have definitely kept the wagon and still bought my duster. Man I miss that car.
