Welcome aboard from another Duster guy. I've got a 360 in my 70, it works great. BBs are cool too, whatever floats your boat.

Cheers,

Steve

Welcome, and cool Duster! For a bb, you will need a 727 trans with the bb bolt pattern on the bellhousing. Schumachers makes engine swap mounts to basically bolt one right in. A bigger radiator would be a plus, and the more cast iron parts that you can swap out for aluminum parts, the better the f/r weight ratio (water pump, housing, intake, etc). Looking forward to more pics!

I'd also add better springs and maybe T-bars if you don't like the bouncy ride you kind of get with the /6 bars. Also the rear of 8-1/4 will be fine for normal driving, rare beat downs and the 8-3/4 I have seen is good for low 10's and high 9's. And the 9's is pushing it if the car is still heavy. After that, your a gonna need a DANA or the Ford 9.

While the swap is easy, it just costs MONEY! LOL! I know, what else is new.....:coffee2:

I was a buick/olds/pontiac guy until age 15, when I fell in love with a 66 Coronet.

That car changed my life.

I've had 16 Mopars, one ford, and one chevy since.

It can happen.

That hot rod 318 article is awesome!!! That's the kind of thing that I like, put down some impressive numbers and then drop the bombshell, its only a 318 lol

And the cam timing is still on the mello side.

Welcome!! As your finding out LOTS of ways to go with your Duster. No matter which way you go listen to Rumble info ,info, info first. Then its all up to time and money.

spend a lil' time reading and learning the ins and outs and what works and what don't, as you gather parts to build any of the smallblocks that were mentioned keep that 340 in the back of your mind, once you get one you will know what i am talking about a 360 will impress you and the parts for it will fit the 340 and the 318 except for the oil pan the 360 is a torque monster where the 318 will want more cam, looser convertor and such....the 340 won't care :burnout:
they just like to rev on the top end

When I was 16, I found a 1970 plum crazy duster 340, might have been a 4-speed but can't remember...I wanted it real bad but it had lots of bondo and was not very nice....but was a driver. My dad had the final word and said "no"...it needed a lot of work and was a real hack job...but all I seen was the 340 engine and I wanted it LOL

I was pretty upset, all summer, we looked for the right Mopar for me...nothing in particular, just a nice cool 2-door that was in good shape. Well, one day, we were working and we drove past a building where there was a 1974 Satellite sitting outside, dad seen it and it had a For Sale sign in it and said "hey, want to stop and look at it?" I said "no"...but he turned around anyway and pulled in the lot, he got out (I didn't) and looked...then went inside and found the guy selling it and asked more about it, got his number, then called him later that day and we went to look at it some more. I still wasn't thrilled...it was a big brown car...I liked the A-Body cars....

Well, I was getting a little more excited when we were on the way there, when we got there the car was in great shape, it was a Sebring Plus with a 318, all original, decent interior and a newer paint job and very little bondo, rock solid floors.....a price was agreed and I was soon driving home my very first car.....which I still own to this very day and would never sell it :glasses7:

I learned a lot on this car, blood, sweat...and many tears.....swapped in a sweet new 340, new drivetrain, Road Runner hood and factory bucket seats.....hope to restore this car someday and pass it along to one of my kids

Sorry for the long story, but I love my first Mopar, even though it was not my first choice....I absolutely love it...I wish you the best of luck with yours :headbang:

That's a gorgeous Sebring, ironically I was just drooling over one just like it today watching a re-run of "counting cars"

Yup ! I am just a bit south of you in Milton, and Younggunn2.0 is in Fed.Way, and a few more that I can not recall right now.... Welcome!

Welcome to FABO! Go big block..... A late model hemi is awsome in the dusters. There is info on the swap here. Engines can be pulled from wrecked donor cars. Get the reliability and mileage of the newer tech with plenty of available parts. There are EFI kits to even make the car look like its carb'd so you can get the old school look of a large chrome air filter..... All up to you and your budget.

I'm actually in auburn as well so it sounds like there are people nearby, I'm real close to wild waves

A late model hemi swap would be awesome, only problems are cost and I don't have a place to store two vehicles in project status
