gents,
i'm not sure if this is a slant 6 specific part or not, but i cannot seem to find out what it is. starter relay maybe? more curiosity than anything else.

65 valiant, slant 6 225.

Because they've been mounting them there since 1926 ????.......

If your car grew up in California, it is part of the emissions control. I had one just like it and removed it without a hick-up.
Do you have a round part that is below the brake master cylinder? That too is an emissions device, I also removed mine

I would say horn relay also .Take the part # off the back of it and check , or unplug it see if it starts.

Steve, I don't know normally I see them on right inside core support. But not totally sure on the early stuff. Doubtful on California emissions in a 65.
wiring diagram for 65 val colors match up also for horn relay.
