I just picked up a complete header back exhaust from Jegs. My plan was to lay it out on the floor and drive the car over it and close up the garage.

Hoping in the morning it would have installed itself. Sound like a plan? :toothy7:

I'm hoping this will be a decent interim exhaust, pretty good system for the money.

I'm also hoping it will change the sound of the car a bit, time will tell.

Hate to shatter your illusion but I have never heard of exhaust fairies.

Better plan on a full day.
The Jegs/Summit system is a good bang for the buck and it fits pretty good but needs a few tweaks.
I have that system on my car and it fit pretty good. They come with a lot of clamps though, i just welded mine on most of the joints and kept the clamps for other projects.
The turbo mufflers that it comes with are pretty good, but they ''drone'' a bit at 40 to 50 mph. That's with 3:55 gears and a 27'' tall tire.

Sawzall is good to have too...unless they fixed the kit, both tail pipes are too long

I used the summit kit with the Summit headers. It was less than was less than $400 delivered from headers to exhaust tips. It's a good starting point. lightly tighten the clamps on the pipes just enough to hold them as you build from the front to the back expect to put the car up in the air on jack stands on the frame so you can use your floor jack to lower the rear end to get the pipes over that and out the back. I did have to cut and change the front passenger side slightly, but everything else fit nicely.

You can put a small tack weld on the joints when you're happy with the position on the pipes. I also used jack stands to hold the pipes up in place as I want along and checked for the closest fit without hitting anything on the car. Use good quality bolts and rubber isolating rubber straps etc to hold the system in place. Once you satisfied that everything is where you want it, weld it 360 degrees around each joint, except on the back side of the muffler to keep air out and reduce backfiring under deceleration. The one on the back of the muffler is left with just a clamp to allow the removal of the system when you drop the trans or something.

I added a small megaphone shaped tip to the end of my exhaust to sweeten the sound, much like trumpets and other horns use them for (not the one you see on there in this early pic). I also added my own cross over tube at a later date. Between adding the tips, the crossover tube and the Hooker Aero chambers, it really improved the sound. No drone, but when you get on it, you can hear all that beautiful tuned noise.
Here's a shot pre- crossover and pre-tip install. It really sounded like it pulsed a lot from from left engine bank to tight engine bank. I didn't like it. Before the two changes, it reminded me of how an old jeep sounds when it was cammed for torque.

So I cut and I fit, and I fit and I twist, and here we go round the mulberry bush!

Good luck Bruce, We used the summit kit and it fit pretty good can't imagine Jeg's would be much different. We did have to go around the mulberry bush some but not to much.

I say you stick with the fairy plan. Altho I left the dart & the duster alone in the garage last night, I was hoping for a baby demon this morning but ......

Still chasing my tail.

Oh boy, here we go.... Watch that passenger side tube, might need to be slightly cut & rewelded.(pic above). Good luck, can't beat the price. The included instructions are AWFUL. Down load the PDF from Jets/Heartthrob, or hit sea ch for pictures.

LMAO, what destructions? There wasn't any.

No biggie, it's pretty self explanatory.

Not a bad kit really for 2 fity. I'm happy with it, it sounds much better now too. I took it for a quick blast and a couple burnouts, and NO rattles. :D

I did realize that I have to get back under there and do some touch up painting though.

The exhaust i had was back to the axle with turn downs, it was OK, but when I got in an area where there was a little dirt it stirred up a cloud, so it was time for change.

I did have to do some minor mods, like getting the mufflers even and getting the pipes over the diff centered but other than that not bad.

Yup, I read full day and I'm thinking yeah right. Well, it took me 6 1/2 hours to do (sigh).

We did just about the same thing, same car, same gear and tire.

That will help the new bullet in the next chamber.
Nice work. It can be a pain, you did your homework.

Smiles.... You turkey.(Bruce) love it! The new engine,
will benefit! Thanks, for sharing.....

Feels good to get that done don't it?
Your gonna get a ticket with that license plate protecting rag on there like that. :)

Maybe you need to sit down and have "the talk" with both of them.
Or get out the creeper and check underneath each - maybe they both have the same "plumbing" and you're never going to get that baby demon from this pair!

It did yesterday, not so much today.

I'm full of sore muscles I forgot I had from getting up and down and under the car so much, lol.

Under car/chassis /exhaust work, can sure beat you up.
