Does anyone know of 17" wheels that will fit a stock 1972 7 1/4 rear end, 5x4.5 bolt pattern.
I bought the american muscle bullet wheels in 17x8, the front fits fine but the offset in the rear (+30mm) is hitting the leaf spring.
If you have a combination of wheels that has worked for you without tubing or spring relocating please let me know.
I would like to avoid spacers but I may have to get some.
Thanks

Spacers! And run what ya bought! :) Im guessing you already went down this road though?

Summit lists spacers. That is basically what you'll have to do, or offset the springs. Bear in mind that offsetting the springs degrades cornering.......increases body roll. Either that or change the axle to a wider one, or get different wheels. See? Easy, LOL

Not all these wheels are the same backspace. I had been using th earlier? 'Stang wheels, but my rear axle is a bit wider, it's a Versailles. More like a B body axle in width. On mine, the early wheels fit, the later ones will need spacers. From my research, it seems you can tell by looking at the valve stem

The early wheels, which are "outset" further, have the valve stem "cutting into" the polished rim. The later wheels, inset further (more backspace) have the stem further in towards the center, "all in" the colored part of the wheel

Post 22 is the rear wheels I scored and had been running / no spacers

Post 25 is the later wheels which will probably go back on........with spacers

I also am using a set of 17" mustang Bullitt style wheels. I installed an MP spring offset kit and still only have a 1/2 inch of clearance between the tire and spring and between the tire and wheel well lip. This is on a 71 Scamp which I'm sure has a smaller wheel well than a demon. Try the spacers, it's your cheapest bet.

I could be wrong here, but aren't 7.25" rear ends small bolt pattern?
Coy's has sbp wheels, you"ll need less backspace though.
Otherwise just use the spacers. -pauly

It was a small bolt pattern/ 5x4 But I drilled out the new pattern for 5x4.5

Personally, I can't see putting all this much work and money into wheels on a 7 1/4" rear axle. You are very likely gonna break the thing, and then need to do something else. So if you end up with a "good buy" on a narrower/ more likely wider axle, your fancy new wheels ain't gonna fit

People may not like the fact I went with Ferd 9 but the fact is, you can't freeking FIND 8 3/4 stuff around here reasonable, and you CAN with 9" stuff. And.......in my case, a third member axle was mandatory. I want to be able to swap center chunks

67Dart273 is right with the axle breaking. The new location for the studs is too close to the edge for comfort.

There has to be a ton of salvage yards around there with mopar stuff. I'm sure you could get your hands on a used 8 3/4, or 9" if you don't want to stay all mopar. Cali isn't that far and I see 8 3/4 rears on here all the time from out west. a one legger should be had for a fairly cheap money. Then upgrade to a suregrip at a later point in time if you so desire.
