have you ever slept in your car

-
Yup. When I moved out of my parents house I was told I could never move back in. A couple times when life was bad it's what I had.

One of my favorite things about my '68 Fastback is that big back window. More than once I've parked it out in the yard on a glorious evening just to climb in the back and watch the sky. It's perfect for meteor showers ... no stiff neck from looking up! :-D

Glad to read I'm not the only one.

yea....i have my coronet wagon im sure that could be a camper and a half.

at almost 4'10" the demon has plenty of room for extra comfy snooze :sleepy1:

I've got a whopping 2 inches on you Rani ... I think we probably fit better than most on the Board. :-D

I was out is the Dart today for supper and had a nap on the way home ( I was driving) !!!! LOL

Some of my best memories are of driving my 66 Cuda from NY to Cali and back over a 4 month period back in the day. It was the fall after HS graduation and I was laid off from a factory job. Slept in the back of it quite a bit at rest stops etc.

While at my sisters in Sacramento, my mom called and said I had been called back to work. On the way east, I was trying to drive non-stop, got very tired in Ohio and pulled over for a snooze. It was February and very cold so left the car running with the heat on. The Cuda was running straight off the mufflers, no tail pipes. I (also) awoke to a highway patrolman knocking on my window, saying "are you ok buddy?" I have always wondered if I was just really in a deep sleep or if the CO was getting to me and the patrolman saved my life.

you must be really tall ....i can stretch out across the bench with the doors shut but im almost 4'10" in height ....

No way, I'm 5'9"......I think those armrests are what was messing me up.:banghead:
I should install wing nuts on them......for the optional "travel package".

Many times and many different cars while travelling. When I was in school and it was a nice day, I used to sleep in the front seat of my '68 Dart between classes. I would roll down a front window and stick my legs out.

When I was 16 and owned the 64 Cuda I dropped the back seat many times with a companion and a 6 pack but rarely did any sleeping.

Gotta love the sky view in a 64-66 Cuda. Nothing beats it.

That my friend, is the reason I always wanted one since I was 15. Plus they look freaking cool.

Slept in many a car over the years but I don't think I ever climbed out of one saying, "That was a good nights sleep"

Many times. Some for practical reasons....especially as I got older. Some for not so practical reasons, as in being young, partying and passed out.....lol. There are better places to sleep though :D.

When we were kids, we used to have to go up north and help great grandma clean her house. She was a clean freak and had a heart attack and was not supposed to do anything too physical. So mom and grandma (and any other family) would meet up there once or twice a week and clean her house for her. Then we would play games until it was late.

Mom would throw a sleeping bag and pillow in the back of her 67 Barracuda fastback and my brother and I would fall asleep while she drove down the tollway while watching the stars out the back window. When she got home, her and dad would carry us to bed if we couldn't wake up and walk ourselves. Good memories.

Sidebar: My great uncle Don taught me how to play chess up there when I was 4 - 5 years old, he wrote 4 or 5 books on playing chess. He would give me his queen at the beginning of the game and still kick my @ss. I did beat my 5th grade teacher... That was another great memory...

He later wrote another book on chess to teach young kids called, "Sammy Seahorse Teaches Chess" during the 90's. It's still available on Amazon.

I still sometimes sleep in my car now. I can recline the seat back and run the heater or A/C until I'm comfortable and get some sleep when I have trouble sleeping in my bed or on the couch.

We also drove my 67 Barracuda fastback to Florida for spring break my first year in college. We put the back seat down and packed our bags on one side and a pillow and sleeping bag on the other. One of us slept while the other drove. It took us 21 hours to drive there straight, only stopping for gas and bathroom breaks from Detroit. Another great memory....

I have. 68 Fastback.

At the last minute I decided to go to a big car show on the Washington coast. No hope of getting a hotel or a location to camp.

Folded down the rear seat, trunk divider and rolled out the sleeping bag. If I ever do it again I will have some kind of foam pad.

I'm sure the car could sleep 2, comfortably with a little padding.

I have on ...mmm... numerous occasions ,

2 air mattresses fit nicely, couple sweatshirts around the mattresses where they go through the trunk divider opening...(flat mattress just tends to ruin ambiance) no need for bulky foam :D:D.

My mom also said that when my brother and I grew out of our cribs, she picked up our new beds in the back of her Barracuda by just folding down the back seat and trunk panel. They fit in there perfectly and the trunk even closed. Twin sized mattresses....

Pretty versatile for a "compact car"....

Went to a weekend show near Olympia Wa this weekend and crashed in the back of the 67 fish overnight, I called it the sleeper special and got first place in a-body stock! =)

I never have and I bet my legs would be clean ount the window and the steering wheel be jammed in my chest.

Not to mention how my back would feel by morning after sleeping on a 43+ year old bench seat... ouch.

due to current forrest fires here in Colorado the sun and moon have been bright orange in the evenings into the nights .......

so last night i was looking at an almost full moon from the drivers seat of my 72 demon ......amazing view........so after awhile i was cat napping so i decided to lay across the bench and snooze just for a little.

well i woke up at sunrise from a very good sleep ....when i woke up....i thought...."dang thats a comfortable car"

anyone else ever do some bonding ...just you and your car.

I have spent too many nights it seems in my '79 doba over the years staring at a red dash in complete darkness or under a bright moon if lucky. Yes.....I soooo can relate to this! And the corinthian leather seats are very comfy!

I have spent many of nights sleeping in cars at the three day swap meets. The early bird gets the worm and so does the scavenger that stays late when the newbies come rolling in. At 6'3" I roll the window down put a pillow on the door and hang my legs out. It actually feels pretty good on the back.

I have also been known to sleep on the back of my car trailer. It is great unless it decides to rain on my parade.

still do , I plan on at least 1 night in the Cuda on my trip to Moparfest , more of a 3-4 hour catnap but still sleeping , yes the metal package area is hard on the old bones but hey it's part of the deal "way she goes boys way she goes" .Used to "sleep" in the back of my 80 Fleetwood all the time , pop the doors onto the secondary locks and my 6'2" fit without the headrest getting in the way .
