Just want to mention my 12.72 @ 108 mph 273 (stock cylinder heads and valves) with a 600 Holley DP in a 1965 4 door Valiant street legal bracket racer because I feel such a part of your 318 brotherhood and proud of it.

That's totally cool! I've got to much $$$ in the new motor to do it myself, but I look forward to getting the 318 out and start playing with it and see what happens.

Hi, I'm a little late to the table but :) :

Not bad for sub-2" intake valve, small port heads, 40+ year old small port intake, and pump gas. :D

Here's an addendum to the Zebra's 318 build. What the combuston chambers looked like after Mr Johnson got done with them:

Can't argue with RJ's flow numbers. To me, it just proves they don't have to be "pretty" to be fast.

Digging up an old thread, I hope you guys don't mind!

Im from Australia, where the 360 and especially the 340 are very rare.. at least for a good virgin bore block.. people are asking $800-1000+ just for the block and caps
The 318LA can be picked up for a couple hundred dollars (AUD)

My current car, a 69 valiant station wagon is a factory 318 car, Single turbo and sequential EFI
I plan to push it into the 10's on a stock short block (minus a cam)

Im also toying with the idea of building a new long engine later and seeing how far I can push the 318, factory steel crank, h beams, forged pistons, around 9.5:1. hydraulic roller cam, either some CNC eddy heads or a set of w5's. hughes girdle and all the other required hardware.

Id like t see how far I can push it, im a fan of small inch motors and I think the 318 is very underestimated

W5 and a 318, even with a turbo, is going to require better than stock valve train. w5 and 318, ....you're going to need to spin it faster than stock rpm.

Sound like a fun ride to begin with.

The OP bailed on the teener? Ha-ha.

I'm just guessing but I'd say people that have a teener do so because of budget, myself included.

I have 72 dart swinger that came with a 318. I was just going to freshen up the top end but screwed up the bore with a ridge reemer. Now planning a full rebuild on the 318.
I have a 97 Magnum 360 in my wrecked truck, I also have a 69 340 block only.
Since I already ported the 318 heads and had them rebuilt, the 318 will take the least amount of money to get this car on the road.

The 340 will be saved for a 69 model car, if I can find one I like and can afford. The 360 may go in the dart later on as money permits. Stroke the 360 and keep the efi.

But for now it's the teener that will be doing giggle duty. It will be a fun car but ain't going to set any records, fun is the primary focus, V8 sound. Speed will come later. Beats driving a civic.

I have a 73 duster. I want to take my 318 to it's limits!
I know- do a stoker 360- same money a big block-
Bla- Bla- Bla NO! I'LL SAY IT AGAIN 318 TO ITS LIMIT!!

so here we go- please post (your) fastest 1/4 mile time
318 block !
Please give time slip pics (if available? )
Motor combo's ?
transmission ?
Rear end ?
Tires ?
I wonder how far that little under dog can go! ??????.......:finga:
I have a 318 bored +.030 to 3.94 " with internaly balanced Scat 4" stroke cast crank Scat I beam floating 6.123 rods with .984 pins and Icon Forged dished pistons which makes 390 CI 9.79 compression runs on 93 pump gas stock 360 heads #587 they have been milled .060 ported etensivley and flow 182 cfm on intake victor 340 intake matched porting cam is 508 hydraulicc flat tappet roler rockers I shift at 6200 it runs 6.38 in the 1/8 mile in my 84 Charger tube frame car weighs 2420 with out driver 410 gears .so yes a 318 will haul ***.
