340 with big hopes

I ran a '71 340 Cuda back in the 80's, with a completely stock 2.02/1.60 Headed 10.5:1 motor, stock replacement forged pistons, added a Holley Strip Dominator, 850DP, MP.590 solid cam, 1.3/4" chassis headers, was around 10.1:1 with Fel-pro Blues, maybe less dependent on the deck heights etc. which were not checked. Ran 36 total on our old 4 star leaded fuel.

According to real world track figures weight/mph, this motor made 379 flywheel, Fully ported heads would add approx 30>40hp perhaps more?, and a good straight deck/heads etc., a touch more so your getting there.

I have a set of J heads on the shelf I was going to use on an oval track project… still may use 'em although the application has changed drastically and I'd be down 150 HP from the GM competition.

They cost just over $700.00 to do… angle milled, mild bowl blend, 2.02/1.6 stainless valves, 350/140 lb. springs, retainers and locks. I bought 'em used @ a swap meet for $50.00.

Now I'm looking @ Brodix B1-BA or Brodix spec heads to try to hit 600 HP. Most guys are running 650-700 HP but they have much deeper pockets than I do.
