Can any one tell me what size the the inlets and outlets were on the factory mufflers used on a 340 in 1969? Also I believe that the muffler case was 18" long. Does that sound right? I will be shopping around for some replacement mufflers that have the same dimensions as the original ones were.

18" and 2.25" inlet and outlet.

Goerlich and Magnaflow make 18" offset center mufflers that are nice. Tom Swope at Accurate has some special ones as well as Jon at Waldrons. They build and sell some that look stock but flow a lot more.

Thanks for the info... Is the offset end the inlet end? Is the dimpled corner for drive shaft clearance?
Last month I checked out Accurate's web site for prices on mufflers and tail pipes, but shipping them across the country probably will push my cost too high.

I have the same question about the crushed corner. I always thought that it was for drive shaft clearance but I've seen pictures of restored cars with the crush on the outside.

Goerlich Accelerators are really nice mufflers. I like them much more than Magnaflows. The 2 companies mentioned are the only 2 I know of that have off the shelf 18" cans.

The corner crush cleared the parking brake assemblies on my cars. Here is a shot of the ones Tom sells at Accurate and it is similar to the ones Waldron can supply if specified.

The crushed corner stops the muffler from rattling against the parking brake cables and/or part of the car's frame. The center outlet is where the tailpipe attaches, as well as where the factory hangers attach. The offset inlet goes inboard, near the driveshaft. If you can't get mufflers this long with the crushed corners, the will probably hit on the car's frame at the outboard/rear corner. There are narrower mufflers that help avoid this issue, as well as mufflers with shorter cases and slightly longer inlet/outlet pipes on the market.
Here are Dynomax's on my car. They don't have the crushed corner and they used to rattle against the parking brake cables often:

(They have since been replaced with the correct mufflers from Accurate Exhaust Products.)

Just for your information...I am in PA and I see you are in New York.....I ordered an entire exhaust system from accurate and didn't want to pay 100 or 150 for shipping it across country so they brought it along with them in their truck to the Chryslers at Carlisle show in July and I picked it up there for free.....It was paid for ahead of time and you must make arrangements with them ahead of time to bring it along.....If this is an option for you, better call them now! As the show is July 11th weekend....

I emailed Accurate last month about delivery to Carlisle and they replied back saying that they will not be at at the Chrysler show in July....

Wow, that is a shocker.....I wonder why?

We were unable to attend Carlilse this year as we had other obligations. We will miss chatting with all the folks we have gotten to know over the last 15 years. Greatest bunch of Mopar enthusiasts all in one place. However we do have arrangements for savings on our exhaust products which are comparable to our Carlisle sales when we are there. You will need to call the office @ 541-672-2661 or email me direct taswope@msn.com to get the best deal. Make sure you mention that you are a FAB
