Show us your Harbor Freight fails. Hate to love, love to hate.

6 ton bench press. Dont waste your time with anything bigger than driving bushings. The working distance is too small for a piston and the press bar is too long for any type of load, it just kicks out the jack, bending the solid steel bar (and I even replaced the Chinese 72mm(?) bar with a good American bought 3/4 steel bar that was probably cast in Korea) and I still bent it. Must have just overloaded it. What kind of pressure does it take to press a pin out? I think I saw a 10,000 lb spike on a good 30 ton hydraulic before it popped and pushed the pin out? I think the ram needs more support, like 2 bars running parallel to the ram, going through the bed plate welded top and bottom like rails. no more kick out. :wack:

You do need to use your judgement. Best thing about HF they will take anything back and actually a lot of there tools are just fine for the weekend shade tree mechanic.

I've had good luck with their tools. I've had one ratchet die on me that I used the crap out of. People use their tools beyond there means, then complain about it being junk (this is not pointed at you pishta). As stated, you can tell with something is crap.

I will however suggest nothing electrical from them like fuses and power cords.

We bought this engine load leveler from HF for about $45, because it said it would hold 2,000lbs. The engine weighs about 1500. Both end pieces where the chain went through bent to the angle of the scope of the chain. We considered putting it back down, but then let it sit over its engine cradle for about an hour, never moved, so we raised and installed it. Afterwards the chains did not come out very well due to it being all bent up.

It did work though - technically. Hard to tell from the picture but those ends are bent. They're supposed to be 90* to the body of the leveler.

Oh and the worm gear doesn't work at all with 1500 lbs on it, so it's useless as a leveler.

HF PASS. 20 ton shop press, Been a great tool.
HF FAIL. Gear pullers, busted everyone I've ever had!

no jab taken, I understand now the minimum capacity for something like this is 12T and a sturdy frame. I was given the chance to use this on loan for free so Im out only the cost of welding another straight 3/4 bar to the bedplate @ $2.00. I still feel the rail idea would make this press 100% better.

then again, you can use a much shorter bar and unscrew the jackscrew on the ram to its fullest. That way you lower the ram base, only pressing on about 4 inches of bar instead of 8 thats bound to bow out. HEy, what happened to the edit buttons?

I would gusset it, the problem with that thing is there is nothing to prevent side movement, hence failure.

4 gussets at 90* to one another would certainly ad strength.
