Did Chrysler use the same color primer under all of their colors during 60's-70's? What color was it?

The primer under the original paint on my 67' barracuda was red oxide

On my 67 wagon, the original paint is quite thin in several places.

This car is white with a blue interior.

It is apparent that the doors and tailgate have blue paint under the white.

I find this very interesting.

Anyone else see this on their cars?

My 69 383-s had a darker gray primer under the car. Not sure under the paint.

The LA produced cars used red primer and then the body was dipped into somekind of greenish primer 22" from bottom and up!

I've seen on Hamtramck built cars just red primer though!

i think dipped first in a light green anti corrosion bath, then dipped as you say 22" deep in dark grey primer but oddly enough red oxide for California..then painted.Underbody would be dark grey primer with body colour overspray.
.. after paint all cars req'd undercoating in the wheel wells and trunk extensions and blackout on the front... some California cars rec'd black paint only in the wheel wells.
..But never say never in Moparland

My 1970 Swinger 340 (Windsor Ontario built) was dipped in a black coating about 22" up and then a red oxide primer was applied over the outer body (over the bare metal) and then a green sealer was sprayed over that followed by the EV2 paint. Under my car was the black from the dipping process and covered in EV2 overspray. I read somewhere that after the dipping process the outer body was hosed down to remove it from the outer panels before the primer was applied. When I scraped the undercoating off my wheel well tubs and inner fenders it had the green sealer and EV2 paint under the the factory undercoat.

I remember in the 60's Chrysler had there 7 year 70000 mile warranty on there cars. They also touted that the warranty covered corrosion as well because a special coating they applied to the bare steel bodies before assembly. I think it was grey with small black flecks...FYI!!

My 69 has saddle interior and there is tan paint under the bronze exterior colour on the door jambs. It appears that they painted the upper door frames first and then painted the exterior colour. In your case it would be the same for the tailgate.
