In the early '90s, my grandpa bought a rough '71 Demon to restore. I was just a kid then, but I remember the body being close to B2 Blue at the time, so I always assumed it was that or B5 originally. When he restored it, he painted it E5 Red. I went up to visit my grandparents this evening, and decided to decode the body tag. I'll post the full break down, but what I found most interesting is that it was built A4 Winchester Gray with white stripes. I've been into Mopars for a long time, but don't believe I've ever see a Winchester Gray '71 Demon, and especially not with white stripes. Does anyone have a picture of this combo or a way of finding out how many were built in that combo? Just for kicks, here's the full tag decoded...

A good friend of mine had one back in the late 70's, as stated it was a rare color for 71. His was a black interior non vinyl top car, also.

Not with white stripes, but one of Mr. Norm's GSS Demon's was an A4 car.

That looks awesome! I think the white stripes would look good against that color.

As far as vinyl top, spoiler, bumper guards, etc. would that only be listed on the build sheet? I don't believe he has the one for his car. I think it's interesting that I'm finding out exactly how a car that's been in my life for 20 years left Michigan in July 1971.

If I live long enough to redo my S, itsa gonna be that color. I had wanted that color in 99 when I first painted it, but my young brain suddenly said RED.

That Demon is beautiful!

I made it my new desktop background

There's really no numbers available on how many cars were painted a certain color. There is a % breakdown for the high impact colors for 1970-1973, but the veracity of that source depends on who you ask.

Regardless, Winchester grey wasn't a high impact color, so there's no production data on it. It doesn't seem like a lot of A-bodied got that color, but beyond that you're unlikely to find exact numbers. Even if there was a % breakdown available it wouldn't give exact numbers for the 340 cars specifically.

Correct, I think EL5 was said to be ordered on about 8 or 9% of 71 cars. You can get an idea .... like almost 11k demon 340's for 71 so MAYBE 8 to 9% would have been painted EL5 so around 800 to 900 71 demon 340's were EL5. I think EL5 was more popular than that on the 71 demon because of the Chrysler original ad. As far as your color it might be around 1% or 2%.

Great color and as said before rare on any Mopar.

Thanks guys, wasn't aware there wasn't a production number available for paint colors. Wish I could've discovered the rarity before he had it painted, but I was probably 7. Lol

This is a 72 but I believe this to be the original color combo u mentioned.

Here's a pic I took in 2011 of an A4 Demon. I "think" it was a Mr Norm's car too IIRC.

I agree it's a great color & seldom seen....
