While I had the engine trans out I replaced all the seals on the outside of the trans 904 (except the shifter seal which was not leaking but will now ) and I'm not real sure about putting the speedo gear back in. It looks like there is a clock to it, it also looks like there is a couple pointers to line up, I did not notice this taking it out as there was old gunk covering it up. Do I have to pay attention to something here? Thanks in advance.

It's clocked by the # of teeth on the drive. Line up the mark for the # you are using with the notch on the case. Notch for the case is on the bottom IIRC.

????? I'm gonna need this explained differently please. What is IIRC?

if I remember correctly

(5) Note number of gear teeth and install speedometer
pinion gear into adapter.
(6) Rotate the speedometer pinion gear and adapter
assembly so that the number on the adapter, corresponding
to the number of teeth on the gear, is in the
6 o'clock position as the assembly is installed (Fig. 1).
(7) Install retainer and bolt, with retainer tangs in
adapter positioning slots. Tap adapter firmly into the
extension housing and tighten retainer bolt to 100 in.
Ibs. (1 1 N.m). Refill transmission.
