I need a couple sets of 340 manifolds so i was going to have a set cast for me.

Is there any interest or a market for this?

What are wrong with headers. I guess it would depend on the power output goal and price comparison, or if your going for a sleeper look.

I dont think so for the 340, the BB HP ones are being repoped. If you can make them flow a lot better and still look somewhat stock they would sell like hot cakes.

I was just thinking i can have a set made for $200 and we are already having the v8 center links made so why not, but i am not going to waste my time or money to make a mold for the manifolds if i can buy originals for under $300 a set.

340 manifolds are repoped. I have them @ times on ebay and I believe Mancini or Year One carry them as well. Not sure but I have seen them somewhere!O:)

If you're talking about a pair of large hole (2 1/4" outlet) 340 manifolds for under $300 you would be lucky to buy them for under $300!! I buy them all the time and it's hard to get them that cheap. Don't get me wrong...it would be nice to have someone cast them and sell them but if you do that then the only members who will buy them are the folks who don't care about being all original. If they don't care about being all original then there are other alternatives that are reasonably priced.
Don't let me discourage you, FABO members need all the help (large EXHAUST manifolds) they can get!!

They have their issues, using a hammer for the install being one. For a stockish motor, most people are fine with no maintenance manifolds. That being said, I will probably hook up headers one day.

They have been reproduced for like 15 years now. Where have you been?

I think if you could produce nice sets of 68-70 340 manifolds for $300 a set you could sell alot of them. Send me a PM if you get serious and I'll go for a couple sets. Finding these manifolds that aren't cracked and welded or pitted all to hell is getting harder and harder. The angle of the mating surfaces at the head and at the pipe has to be precise - not much margin for error to get a stock type pipe to fit.

Fat chance since good used ones go for more than that everyday.

No offense but I'll believe $300 a set when I see it. Make it $400 if you can have a unicorn deliver it. Preferably female...

I said have them made for $200 a set, and that is at the 100 sets mark. That does not include the final clean up.

Then i said there would be no point in making them if i can find more originals for under $300.

Like I said before...if you're talking about the LARGE hole 340 driver and the Large hole 340 passenger manifolds then the only pairs you'll find for under $300 will be from a close friend or from someone who doesn't know what they have. If you're talking about the smaller 340 manifolds (1 7/8" outlet) then yes, you can find them in sets for under $300.
You still haven't stated which 340 manifolds you planned to cast?? Not knowing which manifolds you plan to cast makes the discussion very difficult!!

Manifolds are not needed IMHO, you can make some good money casting a strong SB block that can handle 1,000hp, I don't think the R3 blocks are made any longer.

I work at a foundry, u need 2 patterns and 2 core boxes made out of hardwood, those are used to make a non reusable sand mold. then u pour in the metal, then u need to do some cleanup grinding, then machining-made in usa about $1000 a pair. what foundry did u take a manifold to to get a quote? and the $1000 is after spending $2000-$3000 having the patterns and core boxes made. Ritter makes a great race block

$300 A PAIR FOR LARGE HOLE SET,MACHINE THE FLANGES AND Ill CLEAN THEM UP, LIKE THE OTHER POST/NEW/NO CRACKS/WELDS/PITTING I'LL TAKE A SET NOW !! PAYPAL ??? CASTING # 549'S AND 553'S THEY ARE PROBABLY THE MOST UNIVERSAL// CHARGE EXTRA FOR MACHINING EXHAUST CROSSOVER // A SMALL 3 AXIS CNC TO CLEAN THEM UP /DRILL HOLES/FLANGES// OR WAIT ANOTHER YEAR OR 2 AND MAYBE SOMEONE WILL INVENT A 3D PRINTER THAT USES PLASMA IRON MATERIAL

It's a small foundry here in Oregon.

I don't have any hard quotes, this thread was just to see if there was any interest after i talked to the owner.

We were talking about casting 100 pairs for $20K.

Didn't talk specs or machine work.
