i have a 73 scamp, which someone swapped in a four speed, wanting to keep the bench seat i bought a pistol grip shifter from a b body with a bench seat, a put it off to the side.
a couple of years later i bought a gear vendors overdrive unit.
Now im putting the car togather and i got a problem. no matter what i do the damm shifter keeps hitting the steering wheel. any suggestions ?
thanks

assuming you are sure it is all straight and in correctly - I would say a shorter shifter arm and/or a smaller steering wheel..

A Torch and a bend will be your friend, at the bottom end !!

The shifter is not sitting straight on that home made bracket, it is tilted way forward.

Here is a proper A-body set up.

it appears to be a 70 bench seat shifter handle , I believe a 71-up b body bench seat shifter handle might work . The top one being the 71 up stick, the lower being the 70 stick JMO
:burnout:

X2. I think it is going to be your easiest fix. If you are a good welder, a cut, grind and weld could also work. If you did it low enough, the boot should cover any blemishes.

What shifter adaptor are you using? That is the piece that the shifter bolts to. Or the piece between the gear vendors plate adaptor and the shifter. Looks like you might have an early abody unit ('64ish). That unit tips or angles the shifter forward quite a bit. Try one from later model 68 -75 abody. Years ago ran into that problem when I converted an old ball and trunnion 833 4spd to a standard slip yolk tailshaft. I was after the 3.09 first gear in the early trans. I reused the shifter adaptor from the early trans and the shifter was angled forward. Hope this helps.
