1970 Duster project in Sweden

-
Hej själv!

Is it part number 30618 and 36871 we're talking about?

In that case, I know what I'm going shopping for tomorrow.

Kämpa på!

Yes. I got the small bottle. I cleaned the intake with degreaser and a dish brush. Then hot water and finally some brake cleaner before the paint stripper. I've read that it works best in a warm environment and if you wrap it in plastic while it cures.

Perfect. Thanks.

Maybe i'l try it this weekend ... if I can find something that needs to get rid of it's paint...

Hi,
Might it be you are running an 8 3/8 from my Barracuda (Enköping) in this ride?
Did you attend MATS on Monday. Think I saw you leaving the parking lot, but never got a chans to say hello.
And yes, you have done a fantastic jobb with this Duster. I´m a big fan of the Duster, used to have one ´71 model, but only when you fix them up like you have done. Other wise they can look very sad, and not fun at all... Again, a really good job on this one :)
Stefan

Hello Stefan. Thanks you for the kind words! Nice to see you here. I remember going to pick the 8 3/4 at your place. I did not attend MATS though, so it must have been another Duster you spotted :)

Awesome looking car. Even sweeter since you had to work harder to get it to the way it is now being that your overseas and such.
Subscribed.

I've continued to clean up the engine bay. I forgot to take pictures. But I will next time. Been taking parts off to clean, blast and paint them. Gone over all the hoses and other stuff to that gets dirty and faded after a few years. None of this is really necessary, but it's a nice little project.

Here are some pictures of the progress! The valve covers came out really nice!

Started to clean up the generator.

Stripped of the red paint on the intake manifold. Will do some more cleaning and then prime and paint it.

I have started putting things back together. Installed the intake today. Before I removed the distributor I market it, but It turns out I accidently removed that mark when I cleaned the surface haha. No big deal though.

Everything is back together. I'm really happy with how it came out. Lots of cleaning, blasting, wire brushing and painting.

Took it out driving yesterday. Everything is working fine, no leaks after the manifold install. Next up I'll be doing some tuning using this:

I moved my gauges up to where the old radio is supposed to be. It's long gone so why not place them there I though. The oil pressure gauge missed it's light so I took a diode and resistor from an old broken battery charger that I had in the garage. The sticker is temporary. I'm gonna make some sort of panel I can use without having to hack up the dash.

Today I'm gonna try and get some time to continue to try and get that WOT stumble I have described in this thread Street Demon 625 experience so far

I have also been thinking of getting new gears for the differential. Today I have a 8 3/4 - 741 house with 3.55 and a sure grip. For the 741, 3.73 seems to be lowest there is out there. Is that correct?

Last night I was out driving with my girlfriend Being September in Sweden it's starting to get a bit cold at night. So I had the windows up, something I never have. I knew my differential had some whining, but now I really heard it. So I'm gonna have it apart and while it's apart I will be changing to 3.73 gears.

Just a silly video I made to thank the guys who helped me tune my Street Demon in another thread.

Ever since I got my Duster 10 years ago all my upgrades and work have been mechanical. Besides stripes and wheels I have not really done anything to the exterior or the interior besides keeping it clean and nice. The occasional polish etc. This winter I'm thinking I'm gonna turn my attention to fix up the interior. Getting a new carpet. Touch up the instruments and dash. I'm also gonna see if I can do anything about the scratches and chipping on my paint. I went to a shop the other day who had this little camera that could analyze the color on my car. It comes up with the closest match. See photo, I cant remember what the mopar code was for the match it came up with, I have it written down in the garage. But it's not close enough for sure. I was under the impression that such a camera simply could make a recipe that would be spot on. Maybe others can? If not then I guess one would have to go back and forth tinting this color until it's close enough.

I'm sure you already got your answer by now, but as far as new gears for 741 housings, yes, 3.55 or 3.73 are the only ratios I've seen. Now sometimes you can find 3.91s on here or eBay, but those times are few and far between. I found an assembled sure grip carrier with them in the classified recently but it went pretty quick.

Otherwise, looks like you're having a good time with it! If I had the means, I'd find a way to help ship a hotter power plant your way

Yes, and I have ordered a set of 3.73 gears. I got them of here :) Some day I wish to get a 360 or a 340. It's very rare that these engines turn up for sale here in Sweden. If they do the price is always more than I can afford. But hey, never stop dreaming and maybe someday! Meanwhile I do have fun with this little 273. I'm actually faster than my friend who has a 340 in a Challenger. To be fair he's 340 doesn't seem to be tuned all that well and he's not really into power. Probably has 3.23 or 2.76 gears and stock converter.

You're probably correct. Highway gears and a stock low-rpm stall will make just about any performance vehicle feel sluggish; also if he has it tuned to factory spec, the timing is probably too slow and the carb is too lean.
