Hard to believe but I had my last smoke 4 years ago today. I still crave them but it is slowly getting less and less. The funny thing is that it doesn't make a bit of difference to me whether somebody else is smoking or not. It doesn't make me want one or not want one and I don't find it offensive one little bit. I gained 30+ lbs but I am now slowly taking that off. The highest I got was 258 but I was down to 238 last week. The only difference I really see in being a non smoker is I have a few more dollars in my pocket. I don't notice any health changes. I know a few other people that tried quitting at around the same time as me. I hope they are doing as well. I know Jimjimjimmy is still off of them.

Congrats....the extra dollars are nice and you know it has to be better for you.

Yeah... That extra money thing.... I started smoking Cigars after quitting Cigarettes 20 yrs ago... Problem is.. I smoke 2 or 3.. $3 Cigars a day now... And No .. I'm not inhaling them... Can run for miles...

my how time fly's it will be 4 years tomorrow for me and it was one of my better accomplishment's good job jack and congratulation's on such a hard task .

congratulations and good for you for quitting smoking for so long. Unfortunately the gaining weight part probably took away any health benefits you had from not smoking. I hope you get down to under 200 pounds and feel really good about yourself. I hope the same for myself too. Smiles

Congratulations Jack, It's been over 20 years for me and like yourself I felt little to no difference in my health and being around other smokers doesn't bother me either. But I can't sit in a car that's been smoked in. Same to you jimjimjimmy.
Like yourself I gained a lot of weight, I was up to 275. I now weigh 168 lbs. Good Luck.

Woohoo!
Congrats my Canadian brother!

I'm excited to quit soda water/pop/coke. Especially the diet Pepsi that I loved so much.

I learned the hard way how it destroys the good bacteria in your intestines, damages kidneys, etc. it was so addictive and hard for me to quit.

Thanks everybody,

It's going to be tough to get below 200 lbs. My hockey and baseball in shape playing weight was 215 lbs so if I can get to 220 I will be very happy, anything less than that will be a bonus.

Good luck with getting away from the carbonated drinks greymouser7, that is another tough one to kick.

Jack

Good for you Jack. Your body and your family all appreciate that you quit.

Glad to hear you are sticking with the program Jack!

congrats!! stay on it! I quit back when they were $1.25 a pack... I have no idea how long ago that was. The real "trick" is forgetting about your quit date and just move on with your life without them. - don't look back!

Congrats Jack. 2 years in November for me. 2 years for Lori tomorrow. VERY tough go! Smoking doesn't bother me either way anymore. I can't for the life of me figure out where the money came from to afford it. Lol
Dont feel any healthier, its still declining due to age, maybe I am just slowing the roll a bit.
Hopefully I will be able to spend more mopar $$ soon.
Congrats Jim n Jack

About 22 years now for me, I can guarantee the health benefits are there. I'm in the gym 3 days a week at 69 and there are lots of tats but no smokers. I just spent 3 days climbing up and down under my Barracuda, couldn't do that and smoke. Quitting was the hardest thing I ever did!

Congrats to yall! Kitty will be quit 19 years in the spring. She said she could really taste and smell about six months after she quit.

Great to hear there are so many quitters around here. Quitting smoking anyway. I think it shows that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. It was kind of funny (odd) how it happened. I made a plan to quit and a date to stop that was going to make it easier but the big difference was that after 44 years of smoking my mind just said I didn't want to smoke anymore so I didn't.

Wow it's been 4 years already, a great big congrats.
As for weight loss a great place to start is cutting off pop and chips...Alpine light would be nice too.

It's either real beer or no beer for me J-G. I don't eat much in the line of pop and chips or any junk or fast food for that matter. I'm not real big on sweets either. It is just real hard to push the plate away when Phyllis is such a good cook and I'm not to shabby at it either.

Good excuse...I guess

Food tastes so much better after the first year. Going on 9yrs here after smoking 2 packs a day for 11yrs.

Still enjoy a cigar once or twice a year.

January 10 2017 will be 3 years quit for me. I agree the only advantage I've noticed is I have more money. I still crave a cigarette and is the strongest when I smell someone light one up. Fortunately the urges don't last long. I too have put on 45 pounds and have now taken off 25 of them.

Been about 12 years for me. And yes I still get craves once in a while. Buggers are tough to quit. And like others, I can smell it from a distance. I've been in my car stopped and can smell it from somewhere else.
