1970 Duster project in Sweden

-
Well, my spot repairs of rust turned out to be a big project that eats up a lot of time. It takes me ages because I have little experience. But I have patience so it's all good. Im getting close to do paint and have been at a shop to have them mix and match the old paint. I'm not sure that we will be able to get a closer match. This is two coats of top coat and 2 passes of clear. I painted a hard line on purpose so I could take pictures of it in daylight to bring to the shop for reference. The shop tells me it's impossible to match my sun faded paint. What say you?

Since I dont fully understand the world of paint and color I was under the Illusion that It would not be too hard to match it. The old paint looks lighter and more yellow to me, probably because it's sun faded. What I cant wrap my head around is, why is it so hard to make the new paint lighter and more yellow? Anyway, If it is impossible then I will do the best I can to work with this one. I'm gonna need to practise blending a lot. I was looking for information on that on this very forum. Do you guys have any links that I could read up on before I begin?

See the Gunman, out of Australia...(You tube,he is a interesting dude....)

Awesome! Are you going to go through it before you get it running?
Yes. I started taking it apart today. Will return with more info and pictures soon. I also have a build thread in the small block forum now.

Have started to take the 360 apart to look it over. So far it all looks good. Two valve guides will need attention. I'm having the heads milled 0.030" so the shop will install new guides at the same time. I'm planning to port them myself following 318Willruns videos. I have ordered the XE268H cam with matching springs and lifters and timing gear. Will be running 3000 stall and 3.73 gears. I have a lot of work in front of me if I want to be able to drive the Duster come spring time!

Just curious what did you have to give for a LA 360 over there?
Local to me there was a running Mag 360 for $500 US and a 5.7 Hemi for $800.

Holy crap, the price difference really adds prospective into how expensive it is to build a car over there.

And I considered that a reasonable price (being Sweden). Mopar is also more expensive than any other brand around here, parts are harder to find too. This is why I have been running a 273 for many years and made the best out of it.

Indeed you did--will you be able to recoup any funds from the sale of the 273?
I sold the flywheel and clutch that came with the 360 today. Recouped 230usd. I think I can recoup some with the 273 too.

You know the 273 & 360 have a different balance on the flywheel?

Started porting the 360 heads. Long way to go still.

I've had too little time lately to work on the car. Got some work done today. Cleaning and removing the freeze plugs and stuff. Cleaning gasket areas and such.

800 for a hemi?? Wow,,guess they starting at 4000 here in norway.

@trebor75 have you measured how far down in the holes the pistons are at tdc? I think you should have milled the heads more

I have not had the heads milled yet. Work is currently eating up all my time so I had very little time to work on the car lately.

Been focusing on getting the bodywork finished lately. Working on the 360 to get a break sometimes. I have made a couple of checklists that I follow now. This project has been getting bigger and bigger. But it's fun. Been cleaning some small parts and my tools in this old dishwasher. Works better than expected :)

I removed everything from the washer except the thermostat, heater, and the engines for the washer and the drain pump. Now the washer has a on/off and the drain pump has an on/off. Been doing body work most of the time and continued porting the heads. No where near finished with the heads but here's a picture.

Post 218..picture 3... See the rough edged situation, underneath the valve job? Take some 80-120 grit sand paper, sand it smooth, & concentric, to the eye..... Just my opine...
