What are some of the anti-theft switches you guys have used on your old mopars?

I'm wondering if a cigarette lighter could be integrated as sort of an ignition kill.

Single point, power shut off switch under my seat. Turn the knob and pull it off. Fits nicely in my front pocket. Since it kills all power to the car, nobody is going anywhere with it.
Unless they want to tow it away.

No pics but on a 65 Coronet I once had, a PO wired in a toggle switch from the coil wire which would not let the car start.

Battery in trunk with quick disconnect.

Certainly. I'm planning on an in-trunk disconnect with a push knob to kill it. You could use a rod and tube to make a sliding setup so you can push it off, but not turned back on. You'd have to open the trunk to power back up

There are a number of things you can do.

If you have a tach, use a switch to just ground the tach wire. It won't get spark on a "distributor" type (no cop)

If you have an electric pump, switch in the pump relay

There's a few circuits on an EFI vehicle the simplest of which is the pump relay. It bothers me, "around the net" when I hear about a tow rig / trailer / car has been "disappeared."

ANOTHER thing you can do, if you have a good memory, is to set up something like the pump relay switch so that if the ignition is activated with the security switch "off" IT WILL BLOW a critical fuse like the pump relay fuse. This will frustrate someone who has "time" to play with it.

If they show up with a wrecker/ roll back, you are screwed. You better be invested in some sort of tracking. There seems to be a number of GPS/ wireless systems. I have not kept up

If you are a family with a "group phone" deal set up one in the car for silence and so it can be tracked with an ap

If you are NEAR your car, say Mopar Nats, in a hotel, or at a big show, you can ALSO use various two-way radio services to alarm you. A switch in the car, dome etc........can trip the transmitter, and a "handheld" on your belt will sound the alarm. This won't track, but you will know something is up

I've been planning something similar using an RV battery cutoff triggered with a Viper alarm. I don't have power locks, so I was just going use the lock/unlock feature to disconnect/connect the switch.

Battery disconnect/ ignition cutout and $100 personal tracking device...
Thieves won't spend much time jacking around with a car that won't start.

Good to see you back 67dart273 !

Thanks for the input guys. So, just simply grounding the coil tach wire would prevent it from starting? That seems easy enough.

If you have a tach, use a switch to just ground the tach wire. It won't get spark on a "distributor" type (no cop)

Would this work for GM-style HEI ignition as well?

Whenever I'm in a shadier neighborhood I just pull the wire from the coil to the distributor. But on my other car I have a discrete fuel pump toggle relay. Sometimes I like to imagine a thief taking it, starting it up, starting to drive away until the float bowls run dry, and then walking 400 feet up the street to ask him what he's doin. :D

But as far as doing a cigarette lighter kill switch - you could get a On/Off switch like this

40-1672-02 Judco Manufacturing Inc. | Switches | DigiKey

and mount it inside the hole of the cigarette lighter with a "dummy" lighter plug to press it (although this makes the lighter useless...)

I run an electric fuel pump and have an inertia switch for safety on my wifes mustang, all I do is "thump" it & it opens preventing the pump from running. The relay is in the trunk as well and can be easily removed for extra caution.

My Dart has a hidden cut off switch for the elect. pump. My boys cars have hidden switches that kill the power to the coil, but I have to keep reminding them to use them.

I just take off my coil wire and still have the push button trans with the letters and numbers worn off. 3/4 of the people that look at my car ask where the shifter is.

I like this idea. If you were trying to use the cigarette lighter, you could disconnect the positive lead from the back of the lighter socket and run a wire from the coil negative post to where you disconnected the wire. When you push the lighter in, the car won't start. Pull it out to start it. I've never done this before, so I ask you guys, is it safe to do this on all types of ignition systems? Will grounding the coil do any damage?

I've heard it won't work for MSD, but I'm not sure about HEI. No on has answered that yet.

white wire, most of the time is not used on an msd box, directions say it will work for a kill switch when not used. A momentary push button on the neutral starter switch wire works well too, I had one on my street hemi.

Yes, this is in the MSD instruction sheet (white wire)

my 727 has a switch build in that refuses to let the car start unless it is in neutral or park

shouldnt be too hard to take that switch, extend the wiring and add a second switch into
