Hi All,
Were there guide lines to what Dodge classed at "Scat Pack" cars?
 
Yes, my neighbor bought one and took me for a ride. Fastest car I have ever ridden in. He told me the differences but I can't remember them all.

The Dodge Scat Pack was originally introduced in 1968 with the Charger R/T, Coronet R/T, Dart GTS, and Super Bee. In order for a car to enter the Scat Pack it had to be capable of running the quarter mile in the 14s (14.99 or faster). Mainly a marketing term, Scat Pack cars got twin bumblebee stripes and special decals.
 
In the new cars, it's a different but similar theme. Low option big engine. Although most option them up, defeating the purpose.

In its l least expensive form, a modern Scat Pack has cloth interior, the standard audio system, and standard equipment similar to the least expensive model.
 
Did the rear window's "BEE" sticker become factory installed in 70? What was used in 68,69, and 71? I have a 70 dart swinger with what appears to be original BEE stickers
 
Did they ever put a 6 pack on the gts included in the scat pack? There is a guy that swears his buddy had a factory gts with the 6 pack? True or b_ll ****?

That would be BS......No A-body cars rolled off the assembly line with six packs.

The only six pack(six barrel) cars from the factory were the B-body 69 1/2 A12 RoadRunners and SuperBees, the 1970 E-body Challenger T/A's and the Barracuda AAR's came with 340-6bbl, and 1970/1971 B-bodies could be ordered with a 440-6bbl. There are also(supposedly) a couple of very rare 72 B-bodies with a "factory" 440-6bbl....

EDIT: I forgot to add that the 1970/1971 E-bodies could also be had with the 440-6bll as well....

The one he was talking about was a 69 340 car. Dealers would put them on then? He could have been right then as it being a 69 gts with a 6 pack. Just not factory built but a dealer option.

Of course, anything is possible. Aftermarket, dealer installed, whatever...

Scatpac Club was a Dodge promotion centered around their HP Dodge cars such as RTs, SuperBees GTS. When you bought one of those cars the dealer would send in your information. You would get a packet in the mail containing promotional info, a club certificate and two scatpack decals. The decals went on the quarter windows. Some dealers had packets available at their dealership to give to new owners when they purchased their cars. Contrary to some info out there the decals were not applied at the factory. If the dealer failed to submit your info I'm not sure if as an individual had to pay for a packet.


Here's a site that has a good depiction of the different decals. Unfortunately they can't sell the decals due to the FCA copyright infringement lawsuit.

The 340 sixpak was not available anywhere before the mid-1970 model year.

The first model year for Scat Pack bees in the rear quarter windows from the factory was 1970.
 
Are all the gts darts considered scat packs since the et's where low enough and the rear stripe?
 
So, from what I've read here and elsewhere online, the only "requirement" for scat pack status (back in the day) was to be a Mopar and run 14.99 or lower quarter miles. I know it lists the Dart GTS up above, but probably because the stock /6's, 273's, and 318's back then weren't capable of turning those times. Now, with the advances and aftermarket parts we have, I'm sure there are plenty /6's that can run that, and there are "reasonable" 318's that are turning more HP that than the 340s and 383s then. Does that mean that my 69 four door 318 (after I do my top end rebuild and change the gears) will qualify for scat pack status? It's getting a stripe either way because I just want to have one, but from an official standpoint?

From an official standpoint, (say in 1969) the car would have to be a Dodge FACTORY equipped with a 340, 383 magnum, 440 magnum, or 426 Hemi.
Cloning one today is cool enough, but we are talking about back in the day when these cars were new.
The Plymouth version would be called ''The Rapid Transit System''.
 
In the late 70's, I had a 70 Challenger R/T w/ 383, 4spd, 3.91 that had the bee in the quarter windows.
