I just upgraded from Small bolt pattern to Big bolt pattern moser axles on my 69 STOCK leaf spring location 8 3/4 differential ... I am going to have Stockton build me Custom Steel wheels .... on 15 x 7 REAR wheel ... what back side offset did you do to clear leaf spring and fender lip.... I will be using 255-60-15 tires....
The replacement Moser Axle flange according to Moser should be in virtually same location as original small bolt pattern axle face flange .. THANKS and happy holidays

I have a back spacing of 5" on 15 X 8 with 255/60-15 tires. A tight fit but works.

So I think that 4.5" will work for you with 15 X 7's

Factory mopar 15x7 steel wheels have a 4.25'' backspace. I have used the 4.25'' rule of thumb and have had no problems under early A's B's and the 67up Dart/Valiant that have a smaller wheel house that the Duster/Demon.I have run up to 245/60/15 on a 67 Dart with plenty of room left for the next larger tire.I agree with Steven190 above. 4.25 or 4.5 you should be ok on a 69 A.

Steven.......15X8 NO fender lips ?.... NO rubbing ?.... Stock spring location?.... THANKS

Darter6, just curious, what tire size were you able to get under an early A? I have a 66 Valiant, currently running 245/60/14's on 14x7 SBP wheels that were custom made. I clear by about 3/8" on both sides. I've considered going to LBP and 15" wheels but have been concerned clearance will become an issue.

Very close to the lip only 1/4" clearance, stock spring location has about 1/2" clearance. Has not rubbed all of last year with Feel Firm springs and a snubber. There is not set rule, each car is a little bit different and you may need to test fit and modify.

Steven ... would it be to much trouble to get a couple of photos of that rear wheel setup ?... Thanks

I took some pictures in the garage so may not be the best, Like I said it may need some fitting to get them in some cars. Some people have not issues but other, like me, Had to play with the offset to work.

I also run 15x8 with 245 60r15 on a 69, 4.5"BS, no mods to car. Very close to wheel lip, occasional rub on passenger side. Ive since gone to 235 70r15 and all is well. 4.5 BS should be perfect on a 7". No need to go custom, specialty wheel makes a 15x7 with 4.25" BS.

The fronts at 15 X 7 with 225/60-15 BFG's I think the offset is 4.5" It has the disc brake conversion, it is the 78 E body single piston. They do not hit anywhere.

Rear is 235 70r15 on 15x8 with 4.5" BS, front 215 65r15 on specialty wheel 15x6 with 3.75BS. Front has SSBC disc conversion with lightweight (larger) aluminum calipers.

OK .... my 215-65-15 should fit on my customer 15X5.5 wheels ... and the rears i will have custom made also by stockton so they will be a gurantee fit and no rubbing ... they can move offset any where .... but not i am glad i can use 15X8 on rears with 255-60-15....Gentleman ... THANK YOU very much for the help and Happy Holidays ...Frank

Just for clarity Frank, my Dart would not allow a 255 60r15 on the 8" wheel, 245 was very close and occasionally rubbed. My 235 70r15s have nice clearance. If I were to try a 255, it would be on a 15x7" with 4.25bs.

Thanks for info... i will get with Stockton and see if they can adjust offset to accomodate my needs.. if not i will stay with 15X7

All cars are different.
Borrow a wheel that will bolt up, and break the tape measure out.
This is the only way you will know what fits your car.

I run a 225/60-15 on a 15x7 wheel that has 4.5” backspace. Wish I had gone 4.75 backspace.

I’m sure a 255 will be different though.

I know for a fact that 255-60-15 will fit... i had it in there before upgrading to bbp ... I had it in there with custom made stockton wheels ... center was sbp on 15 in ring.... no rubbing at all... now that i upgraded i was just wondering what and if guys could fit an 8 inch in the rear with 255-60-15 tire .... and it can be done as per abve ... my advanatage is that i can have stockton locate center in ring in any spot to accomodate clearance issues ... HOPEFULLY .. thanks

Going from a small pattern to a large pattern has no effect to the wheel location, I think that the axle flange where the wheel mounts it is the same diamention for both.

Joe.......i do believe you are correct ... as i was told by Moser....but not by much ....
