I am looking to convert my 64 Dart to V8, and would love to retain my push button shift. Anyone have a push-button V8 904 to sell or trade?

I have a V8 pushbutton 904 front case (case only) I wouldn't mind parting with. Swap your 6 cyl guts in.

I have one from a 65, still connected to a 273 from a 65 Coronet! You near Michigan by chance?? I live near Ann Arbor!

I would have to try pretty hard to be further away from Michigan LOL, I'm an hour south of Houston Texas. I'll have to look into how much shipping would be. What would you ask for it?

Being it's a case only, that ought to be a little easier on the checkbook for shipping. What would you want for it?

I typically get $75 for good transmission cores, which I would put this one at! There may be nothing wrong with it at all, I just dont know!! I am willing to strap it to a pallet and fastenal it to you, put it on a Greyhound bus, Fedex it, or whatever it takes if you really want it!

Just so I'm clear, it's got the cable shift linkage, right?

For shift and park!! It was a column shifted 65 Coronet, and had this big cable/linkage operated conglomeration on the steering column, but yes, it's a cable shifted 904 with ball and trunnion tailshaft!

I was hoping when I bought the car that it was the super rare 727 small block 65 only trans that is cable shifted but has the rear U-joint instead of the ball and trunnion!! Sadly, it was not!! I found one of those in the junkyard under a 65 Coronet 4 door, and made a big block cable shifted 727 trans with rear U-joint for my 64 Belvedere, easily a $2k trans nowadays!

That's awesome, I think that would work great for me. I was told that the 65 column shift would work with my 64 button shift because all I need to do is keep my valve body from the 64 and put it in the 65. It may take a little bit of surgery but I believe I can make it work.

May I ask what motor you plan on using?

I've got a 5.9 Magnum I'm dressing up as an LA. Hughes send me a recipe that should put out about 450, but that's just for my own giggles. I'm keeping the small tires and I'm hoping that the traction will break long before the rear end does.

7.25 out back? Where are you south of Houston.

I live and work in Sweeny.

Yes it's still got the 7.25 untouched. Going to put hardened gears in it and hope for the best! I can buy lots of them for what 8.75s go for these days. Besides, I don't think I will bust them unless I put some stickies on her; those stock size tires will give way first.

Just so you know, you will need a custom built converter to use this trans behind any 68 and newer motor! The 67 and earlier transmissions have a different spline count on the input shaft, and use a converter that has a smaller snout on the front to match the smaller register hole in the back of the early cranks! An easier way around this is to buy one of "Torgueflite Pattys" annular rings, that mate the earlier converter snout to the later cranks! You will still have to run an early converter, which I can include, or go the custom built unit as mentioned above!

I think I may go to the custom route, because I might need to have one with a little bit of stall built in anyway. But thank you for that information, otherwise I probably would have just ordered a stall converter that wouldn't fit!!

Aren't the '66-'67 904's small snout and single cable.?
Small snout yes, unsure about the cable. They may be, but haven't seen to be sure. I think I got one lined up though.. And I got in touch with Pat Blais who will be sending me the bushing to fill the gap between the large Magnum bore and the small pre-68 converter snout. Now all I need is some of that good old overtime at work to pay for all of it!

somebody makes a kit to use the pushbuttons with a late linkage type transmission is what I have heard,i am actually looking into this for my 63 dart GT

Do share when you find it!

No offense but you PM'd me at 10:30pm on Thursday. I was with my car dead in the food store parking lot most of Friday in a -20 wind chill. I replied on Saturday at 3:00pm, you read it at 3:30, and never replied back. I want the record public. Good luck in your search Because this one's out of your reach now.

My sincerest apologies, I didn't come here to make any enemies. We've all got a lot going on I'm sure and I just got impatient.
