i am sure that this has been posted many times before but here it is again. I am looking for advise or recommendations or whether or not to add a booster. I am just changing the fronts to disc and leaving the back drums. I will be going to the 4.5 bolt pattern on both. I understand that i will need to change the master cylinder and proportioning valve to accommodate this change but not sure about the booster.

Part 2: The rear end is a 8.75 so when I change the axles to the larger bolt pattern will I be able to use the current brake set up less the drum which will need to be changed to the new bolt pattern or will i need to change everything.

Thanks in advance for any input on this.

You can add a booster if you have the vacuum to run it. Some say you don't need it and other like power brakes. Going from 5x4 to 5x4.5 with factory spindles will widen your front track ~3/8" per side so keep that in mind with shopping for tires and wheels. For the rear folks have reused the small 5x4 stuff and redrilled the drum, but I think that is only if you re drill the 5x4 axles, which I don't recommend. I don't think there is a 5x4.5 drum that will work without a backing plate and proper 5x4.5 axle change, which also will widen the rear track.

What is the car this is going on?

Hi Moparfanatic56,

I'm sure you will get multiple answers to your question so here's the setup I just completed doing the same upgrade you are considering.

1. After considering the cost, weight savings, ease of install, etc, I decided to use the Wilwood 11" front disc brake conversion kit. Easy accessability to parts/tech info and very well built plus drilled/slotted and vented discs. Kit includes absolutely everything you will need.

2. I used a B-Body 11" x2 1/2 "inch finned drums setup in the rear. I had to get complete setup including backing plates . BTW, factory hand brake cables work fine with this conversion. Axles were made by Mosher and now have green bearings. If you go this route, ask for screw in studs ! Also, axle seals are no longer needed.

I have this setup in my 68 Cuda, works great with manual brake setup and also, I bought an aftermarket proportioning valve so I could adjust brakes to my liking.

Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know about my setup.

Good luck with your project!!

On the rear, you can use everything from the little 7.25 big bolt pattern rear.
Just buy the axles from Dr. Diff.

I 2nd Dr. Diff for parts. Cass is awesome. You can't beat his 13" brake setup for price and performance.

I sent Cass a question about 8 3/4 small pattern setup, But got no answer?
Call him on the phone, that is the only way I have been able to get ahold of him.

DoctorDiff doesn't sell any SBP specific 8 3/4 stuff. In fact, he doesn't sell any SBP stuff at all.

Call him on the phone, that is the only way I have been able to get ahold of him.

I've gotten a good dozen emails back from him. He's even replied on the weekends a couple times. Sure your email is going through?

I can supply a custom made 5 x 4" bolt pattern 8.75" axle package.
I am looking for a small pattern solution rear wheel solution that will allow me to keep my 14" Rallys. There does not seem to be a solution out there that does both, so I think the easiest solution is to drill a 5/4.5 for 5/4.

What I have : 64 Dart 8 3/4 with green bearings. stock Disks in the front dual master and I think a stock distribution valve. Also thinking about refurbing a power system from a 65 dart, but keeping the dual master.

So what do I need, and what can you do ?

Are you looking for a pair of 5 x 4" bolt pattern axle shafts?

A custom made 5 x 4" bolt pattern A-body 8.75" axle package runs $405 pair, assembled.

Hang on start over

No I already have 5 on 4 all the way around.

You have 14" Rallys........... which are 5 on 4.
You have a 64 Dart 8.75.... which is a 5 on 4

What's the problem, again?

The problem is trapster hijacked moparfanatic56’s thread.

Moparfanatic56 is converting to BBP disks and rear drums.

Meanwhile, I have no idea what trapster is trying to do, because he already has SBP stuff and wants to use his SBP stuff. So yeah.

Thank you 72bluNBlu this was getting out of control lol

FWIW, I can add a second bolt pattern to any custom made axle package for an additional $25 pair.
