Poll - How far away from home do you drive your classic?

-
This is more for the non-daily driver a bodies..
How far do you venture from home in a car that you may not drive to often?
I'm thinking mostly 72 and back.
My car, 67 barracuda..bought in 1/18, did a lot of mechanical and electrical work and then did about a 2 hour ride away from home, and then back on a crazy hot day. Ran well, no break downs, lol.
But how far would you go...4 hours, 8 hours, etc?

4 hours....and make sure you have basic tools, a spare, lug nuts...jack. I've been spoiled enough with new cars, their reliability, quiet ride, economy....After 4 hours, I've had enough fun for one day. It IS nice to get so many "Thumbs Up!" along the way.

I drive my 74 Plymouth about 8 hours away from home weekend trips are 4/70 mph on the hot days.

I hear you on that. I'm ruined by AC, line in, XM radio on bose speakers...lol. The heat is the biggest disadvantage to driving older cars. I'm going to look into that Vintage Air setup for my 67 Barracuda. That would be real nice.

Ill drive my GTX to Woodward if I feel up to going, that’s an hour, drove it to the Gilmore last year with Uli and Irina, that was 2 hours. It’s the gas that keeps me from going too far in that car. I’d drive Nellas car that far or more if I wanted to go somewhere in it!
Why would you disagree this this, Ramhead? It takes about $25 in gas to go to Woodward from my house, that’s $50 round trip just to get there. Any cruising or burnouts, food or drinks can easily up that number!

...

Oh, I drive my '73--
Never mind. It's not a classic.

FIRST item I ever bought on ebay back in 2003. 68 Barracuda in San Jose. Spent 4 days fixing things before heading home. 2800 miles to Ohio. Still need to write the book.
I'll be going to Clay City, KY next month in the 64 Valiant for the /6 drag races. Planning on 6 hours each way. What better place to break down than among 40 other slanters?

Very nice looking car for sure. I see that front sway bar. I just ordered both back and front for mine.
Thanks! like that red interior looks good with black. Nice garage must be good on the back,I'm still crawling under mine getting a little old.

i drove my 65 dart from Greenfield Mass to Grampian Pa for Christmas (about 20 years ago!) Then I got snowed on and stuck there for several more days than I planned. I had to get back to work, so I forced it over the Poconos in a blizzard. White knuckles at half the posted speed limit but we made it!! I don't think I've been half that far in my barracuda yet. Tacoma to Forks Washington was over 3 hours but pretty tame in comparison.

Someone mentioned that Circle Tour around Superior on last page. I did that on my bike a few summers ago. Awesome ride!
Also, Door County is not all its cracked up to be. Real artsy fartsy and crafts. Not for me.
Id say go to the Yoop instead. Pictured Rocks and Taquemenom state parks are very nice. I go up there once a year for camping and to just get lost.

As for the question, longest trip was my 69 Coronet from Dayton OH to home (IL/WI border). No problems. Im hoping to get some good trips in with the Dart soon.

Farthest I ever drove it in a single day was about 250-300 miles. I would be willing to drive it even farther, but the chance has not presented itself yet. And I need to sort out a minor cooling issue first. Eventually, I would like to take it on the Hot Rod Power Tour.

These cars are built to be driven and thats what i have done in the past and will do in the future,if you cant drive far, work on the reason for the lack of reliability......

Just get into your car and drive them, thats what they where built for in the first place just fix the problems that comes from long time of neglect and they are just as or more reliable than modern cars.

Word!

We take our cars for holiday trips (in Europe) for the last decades.

Mainly we use the ultrareliable Valiant Station - this car has been nearly everywhere in old Europe in the past 30 years. We manage it, that trips should not exceed 500 - 600 kilometers a day. With my Demon I have spent holidays in Northern Germany too.
But the distances between countries or cities are not comparable to the distances in US. Europe is more crowded...

I was just getting interested when I just found this notice the Hot Rod Power Tour is being cancelled after 2019:
Hot Rod Power Tour to end in 2 years. - Channel 23 News
Wow, the article doesn't even make sense. Since its so popular they decide to end it? Odd.
More odd was the idea to only allow cars above 2000 and up..that would be boring I think.

"Do to the enormous popularity and growth of the Hot Rod Power Tour the organizers have decided to end it after the 25th anniversary run in 2019. There was much discussion about only allowing cars built after the 2000 model year, but interest was so overwhelming that they had to allow the older cars to stay part of the show even though they had better styling."

7-10 thousand miles a year. Mostly West Coast. LA, Vegas, Reno etc. Wear it out, the kids will just sell it.
