I’m fairly new to FaBo and haven’t figured out how to properly search. I’m sure it’s on here more than once. But can some one give me a parts brake down of what I need to swap my barracuda over to manual? Which trans I choose is still undecided but it needs OD. I’m going with a 408 stroker and 8 3/4 protouring car. End goal would be a t56 but maybe just a cheap 5 speed for now? What are your thoughts ?

A 408 makes more torque than the cheap 5 speeds can handle. You will need a Passon 855 or a Tremec TKO for an OD 5 speed. The Passon unit is a bolt in, a much cleaner installation.

Passon also makes an overdrive gearset for 18-spline A833s that has a closer spread of gear ratios. Cheaper and easier to get ahold of than an 855

I'm daydreaming again...a few questions on my mind:
Has anyone done a T56 swap yet? Is it that much better than a TKO 5spd?

What are the hard parts of this job? Is any welding (mounts, floor, etc.) required?

Can this job be realistically done with ramps/jackstands? I have pulled/installed my A904 without a lift...but I can imagine that some of the aspects of this job might be difficult from the supine position.

Is this something that an average mechanic should even think about?

T56's are a lot bigger. You have to modify the tunnel for either the TKO or the T56. Talk to American Power Train or Silver Sport Transmissions for a complete kit.

Ok I'm wondering why an A833 would not be enough with a 408, in a protouring car....... What else does a protouring car do?
Have you given any thought to a two-speed rear, like a Wilson Quick Change?
