I am doing some minor restoration on a '65 Barracuda I was working on for someone that bailed on the project years ago and now the car is mine. I'm doing it on a budget and instead of paying $600 for a new bumper (bumper on car had the ends that wrap the fender cut off for some reason) I've decide to put bracing in lieu of a bumper behind the valance and modify the valance itself. I had looked at some fiberglass ones but they are pricey and ones that I actually liked are hand made and not for sale. Not welded up yet but I will be welding tomorrow night and taking to the painter, where the rest of the car is, tuesday. Should have finished photos then. Thoughts??

Interested in seeing it on car.

Dont think the foil bumpers protect the car that much anyways. Not any more than the plastic they use today.

The plastic is just a bumper cover. Every modern car has a HSS steel, aluminum or fiber glass reinforcement
under that plastic cover. Modern cars are designed to protect the passengers in a collision. An accident is more survivable in a modern car than one from the 60's or the 70's. Think about non collapsable steering columns
of yester year.

Not the point here. Bumper or not will make very little difference.
Have seen many modern fron ends apart. I know whats in there. A whole whack of over priced technology that the slightest bump destroys.
Whats on the front of a 65 barracuda is irrelevant.

Well it's been a long time coming but the '65 is finally getting paint. Weather and an my painter having some health issues made for some serious delays, but I was in the booth tonight doing the final prep and to finally actual see paint going on the car was great. I will post pictures this weekend! Valance/Bumper Cover looks great. Tomorrow it goes on the car for the first time. I guess I had no real reason to post but I am excited for tomorrow!

i love these years with the bumper deleted. look great. any more pics from prior to mounting the valance?

Got my vote, well done. Reminds me of an episode of Wheeler Dealer. They had a Lancia and Ant did something similar and added fog lights. His turned out sweet, too.
