I want to use disk breaks on the rear of my 71 dart but I think I may have screwed up.

I built my axle housing with an axle off set of 2.125, this number was set as I was going to use some old drums I had. Turns out those drums have the wrong bolt pattern and I can buy a disk set up for about the cost of a drum set up.

The disk set up I want requires a axle off set of 2.50-2.75. I can't simply order new get longer axles as this will push out my wheel to far and I DONT want to pay to have my axle housing shortened again.

I have a full fab shop and was thinking why not just weld the caliper mount to the axle vs bolting it to the flange?

If I put on the disk i can bolt the caliper to the bracket, center the caliper over the disk and simply weld the bracket right to the housing.

Anyone see an issue with this or know something I'm not thinking of?

Thanks for your advice.

Can you use spacers between the housing flange and the adapter bracket to move it inboard the appropriate amount?

In regards to welding, two things...

1 welding on the housing might require housing straightening.
2 will the bracket ever need to be removed to remove any other parts? many cars I have had require you to remove certain parts to remove the caliper etc.

nothing wrong with welding the bracket to the housing. Dirt jerks here do it all the time. They use a bracket that allows use of the readily available, and, cheap GM metric calipers.
